I almost never use my phone next to my head, so it's not a big deal.
Inverse square law states that the radiation exposure to your brain is orders of magnitude stronger when the phone is held next to head and using cellular radio.
Even using a bluetooth ear adapter which is much lower power and moves the high-power radio away from your head will pretty much eliminate all danger.
Just don't talk for hours a day with the phone by your ear and you'll be fine.

There's no proposed mechanism. They can still establish a correlation. It's just a soft survey correlation against a hard physics/chemistry mechanism that says "this shouldn't make cancer."
