We australians often have out own threads in the evenings or when something important happens.
Everyone else either just stays away or makes weak attempts to troll them and gets ignored or ridiculed but mostly everyone else just stays away because they don't know what we are talking about for the most part.
I see other countries do the same.
Sometimes there is cross over but mostly people don't discuss each others politics beyond ridiculing each others downfalls because that's all we know. We don't tend to know the nuances of each others politics because we aren't living under it.
The US on the other hand is the biggest circus on the planet right now.
Plus it's in english so easily accessible. There could be amazing shit happening in china but I don't speak chinese so I don't give a fuck.
American politics has big personalities that other countries tend to lack. It's only occasionally that someone from another country comes along who's interesting enough or pivotal enough to garner the attention of the world.

They know more about US politics then their own politics. I met a Canadian who thought Quebec was a country. Even I know as an American that it's a province.

You've pretty much got it right there. While we (of all sites, ironically) sport a vast geographic, ethnic, and political diversity, a good majority of people who use this site are from the US. On top of this, considering the status of the US as a superpower, whatever happens here affects every other country we control... which happens to be a lot.
