Basic income is a real possibility, and I'm sure many lazy sacks of shit will enjoy it for the three months, a year, doing nothing. Then the government will tell you where/how to spend my it, create restrictions for entitlement like; no gun ownership, must accept a barrage of pharmaceutical cocktails, sterilization. Your life will be shit. You will search for ways up the economic ladder, but all the rungs have been pulled too far beyond your reach. It is about then that I imagine they begin the compulsive government work gangs under armed guard. Slave labor camps and squads picking up trash, building roads, with no retirement as the government will euthanize to those who are no longer productive. Above you will stand the bureaucrats that stole trillions, promised you pennies, and came back for them as tax.
It'll happen in the next few decades as automation becomes more efficient, among other factors.
Either by choice, or until so many people need to be on government money that we essentially have UBI.
Ready or not, it is factually a thing that will and must happen.

They will propel themselves upward by any con at all. They were courtiers, ministers, sheriffs, etc. Lords, Princes, and Kings have fallen, yet they have always endured.
