Modern trend. The one in which students attack their own classmates. Otherwise, "school massacre" would go way back to Mongols slaughtering the university students in 1200's Baghdad and so on.

These type of attacks have happened everywhere all over the world it wasn't until recently people were connected enough to know about them. Long story short unstable people exist and they sometimes are pushed far enough to kill people. Your never safe anywhere you go deal with it.
