What the fuck my History of Philosophy - 19 Century class has taken a weird turn. We went from reading Hegel, Kant, Marx, and Nietzsche to reading "The Declaration of Sentiments" which is some cucklery womens rights horse shit and my teacher was talking about the wage gap and how women make 76 cents for every dollar a man makes. What the fuck is this shit doing in my philosophy class?

Philosophy and Ethics A-level was the seed that allowed me to open my eyes later on.

Its not surprising they want to throw out actual analytical content for feely bullshit.
>>
>>75043837
Yes, how could you possibly go from Marx to feminism. Truly puzzling.
>>
>>75043935
Both are moral philosophies. Both have resulted in popular movements in the world. You guys need to sack up and stop being scared to study feminism, the more you know about it the easier it is to rip apart third wave dumbasses

May i request a succinct answer to how the two are related?
>>

Both propagate that exploitation by another group, i.e. men and the bourgeoisie respectively, is holding the groups they cater to back and that without that everyone will be equal and as long equality of outcome hasn't been reached we need to enforce measures to achieve it.

Speak up. If you know he says something you know is wrong, take a turn for the better and actually talk some philosophy in your "philosophy" class.

All it takes is a neutral tone and putting your hand up. Just simply question if he thinks that's for wages or average career earnings and go from there

perhaps women are holding themselves back?

Close, but yeah Amsterdam is pretty leftist, had a great right wing lecturer though on east germany that triggered the loonies when he started to give his opinion on socialism.

It's a philosophy class. Therefore it's totally right to ask if this is ethically wrong, and if it is, why.

Reminder that the world is sexist and feminists are braver and stronger than you fucking white men ever will be.

To any sisters on this board who are proud feminists, dump these basement dwelling boys!
Stand tall as women!
As feminists, we shouldn't vote.
Why?
Voting means you passively agree with the patriarchal system and propagate its existence no matter which way you vote.
Be a true feminist, be a true revolutionary.

Humanities courses are platforms for the opinions of the professor you get because there are basically no requirements that they have to teach. For example, I took an english class in college that turned into a feminism / art history class because of the professor. Take the same class with a different professor and you'll probably get something quite different.

If you can, try to look up reviews of the professors for your classes ahead of time. If not, colleges will usually let you drop classes and pick up new ones within the first few weeks or whatever. Keep a list of alternates in case you notice this kinda shit in their syllabus on the first day.

I loved Marx in college because he has some good ideas about how all societies are doomed to collapse. The commie manifesto was one of the main texts that redpilled me.

For humanities requirements I had to take a book analysis/discussion class and BTFO'd the entire class when we did Marx, basically arguing that all human societies are flawed while the other kids all supported "power to le people." Even had the professor agreeing with me Kek.

Well after 2,000 years of domination by men, philosophy did have some female philosophers emerge.

But "female philosophy" is identical to "feminist philosophy." So feminist philosophy is a part of the history of philosophy.

A male philosopher is free to talk about ideas, anything. But a female philosopher must always talk about vaginas, just like female comedians.

So you learnt people try and control what is significant in philosophy to determine what should be considered philosophy. Welcome to the real world.

Just regurgitate what they want you to say to pass and consider it another lesson about the need for honesty being a weakness in modernity. If you are a phil major good luck, you can write that person off as a good conversational person to bounce ideas off since they spout progressivism. And that is the main reason you are meant to go to Uni over the autodidact route - for the faculty and peer conversations, but it has all become tainted nowadays... remember all the best phil books are free with a kindle.

Why the fuck are they teaching you philosophy in philosophy class?? Havent they heard about states rights and the 5 amendmendt where you are free to decide what is and isnt a valid discipline (4chan's Law)???

What did Hobbes say about exchange value?

Someone call still read Marx, and observe the same things Marx observed about capitalism, and still conclude that communism is not the answer.

>Elaborating and expanding upon Marx's notion of commodity fetishism whereby social relations between men assume "the fantastic form of a relation between things" (Marx 1990: 165), Lukács developed the concept of reification - thingification. Man is turned into a thing, subjects become objects. In terms of commodity exchange the theory can be summarised as follows: "the subject of the exchange is just as abstract, formal and reified as its object" (Lukács 1971: 105). In Alain Badiou's reading, what Marx regarded as the principle alienation of capitalism is "the primacy of things over existence, of commodities over life" (Badiou 2012: 20). By exchanging commodities in one-off transactions, man's social relations become more object-like, thing-like, and abstract. As Charles Levin puts it in Heideggerian terms, this is a "nihilistic reduction of Being to exchange value" (Levin 1996: 7).

>If the market is indefinitely extended, as Marx claims of capitalism, then everything is for sale and has a price. Reification, this process of objectification, this making of things, treats the social as a thing, and treats people as things to be used and discarded.

>Baudrillard claims, commodities are not merely to be characterized by use-value and exchange value, as in Marx's theory of the commodity, but sign-value -- the expression and mark of style, prestige, luxury, power, and so on -- becomes an increasingly important part of the commodity and consumption.

>From this perspective, Baudrillard claims that commodities are bought and displayed as much for their sign-value as their use-value, and that the phenomenon of sign-value has become an essential constituent of the commodity and consumption in the consumer society.
