The 90 was shit. You could literally watch the destruction of out nation at the hands of the Democratic machine and Bill Clinton

We went from the peak of the 80s to the low point were at now and its been like watching a fucking train derail

Considering GW got so much shit from trying to turn the train ever so slightly back to the right I have no hope for the shitters of this country

Enjoy your socialism and failure millennials. you WILL be the last generation congrats!

70s and 80s were better. 80s arguably more materialistic than the 70s, so not as good all-around.

90s were the lull before the storm, but still better than anything since 2001. Many of us thought that with the fall of Communism that the Marxist menace was bascially gone forever. In the 90s it was just incubating, particularly in the Academy.

For me America has been dead since 2008. We got the crash and Obama, and it's been madness ever since.

It depends.

The 90s were amazing in that the Internet finally took hold and put the world at your fingertips. The economy was booming. A responsible Republican legislature and a bluedog Democrat president got shit done. It was the golden age of vidya and the last decade of decent rap. Best decade of SNL. The birth of deadpan comedy.

That being said, after Grunge died buttrock took over. Fashion was really bad.

I'd argue against that

i grew up in the 90's (born 1976). i can tell you the early to mid 90's in the US was the best time in the history of the world

best music, video games were a recent innovation still, cd's were still a new thing, the commies had fallen or just fallen, the US had everything, PC/diversity was not crushing, all was new and the future was bright

This. The 80's were before affirmative action and the volatile leftism that had been dormant since the 60's became active again. In the 80's America was still white, straight, Christian, the upper class was classy and aesthetic.

Actually, that isn't a bad time to date the change, if we're to pick an arbitrary date. It was around the same time that the big .com bubble burst, and the Internet reinvented itself as the shitshow we now call Web 2.0.
>>
>>74902390
Not for white people. Grunge/alternative music turned men pussy. Cities adopted European liberal sentiments. Globalism began to take root.
>>
>>74904461

Kek, yeah that happened.

Then again so did the LA riots, hollywood bank robbery and unibomber so there was other shit speckled throughout the 90's.
>>
>>74904533
The commercialized the Seattle sound, which was a unique, lo-fi antisocial rock that stood in opposition to the hair bands, nu-wave, and bubblegum pop of the 1980s.

Nirvana (unintentionally) made it a hollywood industry with their Nevermind album. That opened the door for Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, and Alice in Chains. Once that sound became desirable, every asshole in the mid 90s tried imitating it (Bush, Stone Temple Pilots, Creed, etc...) and made the scene complete shit.

that's hardly unique to Nirvana, its just that they made music so good it couldn't be contained to a shitty local scene full of rained out depressed Heroin addicts.

Op Ivy did the same for 90's punk, turned most of it into an amalgam of pop and teen angst. No one can steal an original. only make watered down copies.

The 90s were schizophrenic. They had the outgoing 80s on one side, and the growing pc culture on the other. You could never be sure who you were dealing with.
It was the same with girls. Some were still traditional, some already were entitled bitches, despite looking more feminine than today. It felt like a fake package, while today at least you can learn about female nature on the internet.
By the mid 90s it was clear that the culture was
heading towards the sensitive side, although this change was often confused with getting older and people's expectations of you change.
But of course it was more than that.

I was a kid in the 90s so I won't comment on politics or society then but without a doubt I can say that vidya and the internet were better. There were a lot of AA games that had good funding but tried different things. This of course is in addition to the legendary blockbusters. Most of the devs were total nerds that liked what they did. For awhile freaking flight sims were a big portion of the PC market, and MMOs like Tibia and Ultima Online were brutal and satisfying compared to the stuff today.

One major fact that influenced the culture was that the computer was something that was in the corner of a room in your house, and the internet required at least a little skill if not to get online then at least to navigate. That really changed the nature of online interaction compared to now where there are people growing up online all the time and don't even own a PC they just use their phones and tablets...

Then again I bet a bunch of kids are getting nudes sent to them via Kik, Snapchat and other social networks, it's probably easier than ever to find and interact with girls from school. So maybe things are better now from the young man perspective.

>>74903999
What killed radio was Clear Channel buying up everything. The city radio stations that might've played more real rock or metal or local bands in addition to the top stuff got bought and homogenized.

I have fond memories of the 90's, but the 80's were so good. When grunge came about as a reaction to people having too much fun, you know you had just lived through a special time. Then the Berlin Wall came down, everyone realized the U.S. had won, and it was time to start worrying about retirement.

To me I noticed a change when 9/11 happened and by the Iraq War all that optimism and hope had vanished and become replaced with a biting cynicism and pessimism that has kept festering until this day.

Yes the 90s were great. And so was basically every single decade up to the year 2000. It seems like as soon as it hit the mid 2000s, looks became EVERYTHING!

In the 90s, dress attire was very casual. As soon as it hit like 2005, all of a sudden your fashion, and how you dress mattered.

>both men and women groom themselves more than they ever used to
>how you dress before you go outside matters
>girls get plastic surgery now almost as if it's a rite of passage

>Back then you could just go up to women and pick them up anywhere. You would get turned down or you'd have a conversation.

Not really. I found women a little easier in the 90s than the 80s, but women were status conscious and materialistic--unless you were the local coke dealer who gave away free samples---

I doubt much has changed.

Same as the 90's, you're delusional. Yeah people may look like clones now but it was the same shit back then too. It may have been worse tbqh

I've got a good story from the 80s. There was about 7 of us that got caught cheating on our final couple of tests in 9th grade English class. We had to pass or fail that class and be screwed for the next year. Wellwe got caught with our cheat sheets. I've never seen so many zeros entered into a teachers grade book. Remember this was before electronics. Laptops. Well, we broke a window to gain entry to her class room and stole her grade book for the entire year. She had left it on her desk and the door was locked but the rock broke the outside window so...... We grabbed that grade book and thru it in our bomb fire that night over a case of genesee cream ale beer. Went to class the next day and guess what ? She had to pass the entire class because she had no grades for the entire school year, boy was she pissed. Nothing else was takin just her score book. Great memories and great times too bad computers mucked that kinda stealth mission up in the future. Hahahahaha. She was pissed. The principal was pissed at her for screwing up all the kids that needed their exact grades for future college. Wonderful memory.

It's coming back a bit, lad. Was at the uni pool last week and saw more than one high waisted thong worn by 18-20 year old girls. I was equal parts confused, surprised, and horny. Had to get out of there fuckin quick. To be quite honest, there really isn't a greater joy than seeing your earliest fetishes come back into style. The uni is in southern Cali, if it matters.

Yes and no. There were styles back then and tiers, but demographics were very different. You had rich parts of town, but they were small, and middle class styles were pretty easy to replicate. Now you have Cardinal Cities, and legions of poseurs in lesser cities aping them. Middle class retailers are all but dead, and you have luxury and poverty proliferating.

The ongoing Satanic Panic through the last 4 decades has created so many fedoras. The news and media was completely lit up with all these trends that were trying to corrupt children, producing the forbidden fruit effect by the amplification of rebellion, and cementing it into fate through the power of self-fulfilling prophecy.

internet makes it that you can control a lot of the information you receive which is good and bad. the bad being that you can tend to concentrate on a lot of the negative.

The 90s were a period of moral decline (albeit, much less than today) as were 80s and 70s (really any period after WW2).

I was a teenager in the '90's. I couldn't have imagined the world the way that it is today. We had the Berlin Wall fall, the Soviet Union dissolve, and the world was our oyster. Shit was supposed to turn in to a Utopia.

The current distopia was not supposed to happen. We catapulted out of the dot-com boom into terrorism, war, the fall of Europe, and ideological extremists posing as Democrats.

I think you retards need to go outside and find a way to enjoy yourself in the realworld.
Protip every fucking generation felt like they were living during the end of the world and everything was going to shit and the last decade was awesome.
Every time period has its ups and downs things change. Deal with it or die because thats what you're setting yourselves up for by dwelling on the past and thinking everything to come is shit. Theres always shit. If you dont like SJW people then dont associate with them, dont like gays you dont have to socialize with them, dont go to university unless you want to do a hard science and think you can excel.

What the 90s had what was awesome is the culture was very random and felt like it had little in rules. It kinda just did what it wanted and no one gave a shit I think 99% of people hate how PC everything is now but they are too pussy to say or do anything about it.
Current society we have the advantage of really awesome tech but the gov't can watch us with it and you cant really run your mouth on social media sites because employers watch that shit.I would say we are sort of living in a mixture of 1984 and brave new world where people are for the most part are distracted focused on materialistic pursuits and the narcissism produced by shit like selfies streaming and youtube but at the same time you cant really say or do what you want because anything thats put on the web is permanent and can get you labeled.

The people on /Pol/ are highly negative and only see the bad where there has been a lot of good brought out the only thing you can really do is either ignore what you dislike or try to unite against it using the same tools as your enemies but you guys just like to bitch and circle jerk on a japanse weeb forum because you're cowards not leaders.
Exceptions go to the amazing trolls who brought about Hitler did nothing wrong, meme magic and revealed pedos/animal abusers etc.

You don't fucking get it, do you? We had plenty of good things in the 90s and they were taken from us.

Every generation think they're living in the end of the world? Wow, what could that trend point out? That we're going to shit?

New ways of life are being imposed on people and new things appear to tame the new generations. The elites force you to put up with more shit every year it passes and the old generations have to accumulate the baggage the same way that the coming generation thinks that everything is cool now and they'll protest like we do now when everything goes deeper into the shithole.

Life in the 90s was innocent for children. Growing up most of us never understood adult things outside of sarcasm and irony. I played out every single day until basically sunset, running, climbing, everyone played sports including the girls.

We had catchphrases and sayings, we talked about last night's episode of the Simpsons or Seinfeld (but Seinfeld was something your older brother watched and you only liked Kramer because of his flailing and George because he seemed pathetic).

Most of us discovered masturbation from bra magazines or finding our dad's porn stash under his bed. We snuck a sip of beer at a party when no adult was watching and we felt out first tits and fingered our first pussies as a right of passage, with one of the three slutty girls in school older than us, behind the bike sheds or the bushes near the oval.

Computers were still rare and toys for the richer kids. You would play multiplayer hot seat on the same keyboard with your friend controlling the arrows and numpad and you controlling wasd and left shift, ctrl, alt. The third friend would be jammed in a chair behind you trying to get a closer look at the screen.

Then the internet came. We turned away from romancing girls and were completely engrossed and absorbed by beautiful pictures then video. But sex was not enough. Then came violence, death, horror, perversions so disgusting that they spread like a whisper, swap.avi, somethingawful, 4chan.

The children with controlled internet access and concerned religious parents looked at computers and thought- geewhiz what a great tool to do my homework on. The rest of us saw that the world was a burning pile of shit and we all gleefully added fuel.

We stopped playing outside. We stopped kissing cute girls and started asking them to kiss our dicks. We stopped thinking there was anything good to fight for or believe in.

Kiss my ass. Fuck you. Bullshit.

And you, you sad and hopeless generations that never had life before, you are lost.

Goddamit Ausbro, you fucking hit the nail on the head.

Except WASD didn't happen until Descent. that was 1994ish.

One of the things I remember most about back then was when it was summertime and my Mom told me to go play outside. No worries about anything else, we were in a safe area. Just go play outside.

I was out there for 10 fucking minutes and we were dying of the heat. It must have been 25-27 degrees out there (Celsius). We bitched like crazy to come in to the A/C, and got told to fuck off.

I look at my asshole kids right now, and they whine and bitch nonstop. It's too hot, it's too cold, etc. I know it's a stupid thing to discuss, but my kids are so much whinier than I remember being.

Shitty parenting, maybe, but I do try to keep them in their place (not to the point that the anon up the thread experienced). It's more that society as a whole fully supports all their whining, and that me trying to tell them to deal with it is not socially acceptable.

How is it down under, I wonder?
