I have ancestors that fought in the Alamo.
So does pretty much single white person that has a family history here in Texas. Early settlers had like 10 kids per women and those at the Alamo were mostly young men, often only one or two young men per family went off to war. The women and children and older men of the colony survived the war by fleeing in the "Runaway Scape" towards the American border, only to come back and resettle after the surprise victory over the Mexicans at San Jacinto ended the war.
So pretty much every family had lost one male relative but virtually no families were out and out destroyed. Thus most white Texans have a relative who died there, even if it isn't a direct lineage. Its the same principle behind the fact that 1/4 Americans have royal blood, and 70% of Euros have a genetic trace to Ramses the Great: they had a fuckload of kids back then.
