Top 10 countries for food. I'll start:

1. ENGLAND - Best food on Earth. Pies, Pastys, Roast Dinner, Full English, Toad in the Hole, crumpets, the list goes on and on.

2. USA - Burgers and Pizza, need I say more?

3. India - Curry. Naan bread. Poppadoms.

4. China - Chicken Chow Mein, Lovely sauce...

5. Italy - Pasta, Bolognaise, Lasagne, Pizza that isn't quite as good as US pizza.

6. Mexico - Not very big over here, but I love it. Tacos, Fajitas etc.

7. Poland - Nice Potatoes. Can do brilliant things with vegetables and steak.

8. Greece - Know how to do Cheese right, loads of weird shit that tastes nice.

9. Turkey - Actually very nice, it's a shame that I'm scared to eat food served by their chefs.

10. Spanish - Nice food, nothing remarkable though
>>

Ha, yeah, of course you are.

So we make a lot of sausages and egg based dishes? That's cool.

But British food is still bland compared to other countries.
>>
>>74861831
It's a palette thing. Nearly all countries have a different palette for food. To us the bread doesn't taste sweet because we were raised with that taste. To UKers and Aussies our bread is compared to cake.
I've heard you guys can taste the artificial dairy used in our milk chocolate. I myself can taste it in some brands after experiencing other types of chocolate.
So our taste buds are totally different. They even have to reformulate fast food when they take them internationally.

1) Japan - based everything, literally, everything is tasty as fuck. A big bowl of chashu ramen is the ultimate comfort food. Also japanese curry, love it much more than most indian varieties.
2) China - based dumplings, mapo tofu is my favorite meal.
3) T*rkey - actually, turkish food is awesome, hard to beat a good kebab with ayran
4) France - forget haute cuisine, some pleb-tier foods can totaly carry you away. A bit too fat at times though
5) Italy - meme foods (pizza, lasagna) are okay, but I go for something more deep - like some raviolli recipes with cheese or risotto. Also, crazy zuppas.
6) Vietnam >Phở bò
7) India - Chicken 65 is the ultimate way to make chicken, also love dahl soup, palak panir is very nice
8) Greece - I love tzatziki so goddamn much

>>
Here's how food works. You have the meme food that people outside your country knows and associate it with and they're usually completely off base or shit.
Then you have authentic foods that have the potential to be really good but most people from that country can't cook it well.
I'll tell you right now most people in the states can't cook authentic regional foods well. Most people who claim they can cook soul food/southern food well really fucking can't. Most restaurants will fuck it up too. I can't speak for other countries but I can imagine it's the same. Some fucker bragging about being a good cook then fucking up your national dishes and pushing the memes.

Italy has the best cuisine in the world, hands down. I mean, look at how adaptable pizza is (for example). Pizza can be adapted to suit ANYONE'S tastes and even anyone's religious beliefs (if you're religious of course, I'm not religious).
Furthermore, Italian cuisine is not only DELICIOUS AS FUCK, it's also EASY AS FUCK to make. There's a REASON why Italian cuisine is the most popular cuisine in the world. Italian food (like pizza and pasta) is the ultimate pleb food and that's not always a bad thing. China has the next best cuisine, followed by India. I don't care what ANYONE says, I LOVE Indian food (ESPECIALLY butter chicken curry). The next best is Mexican with tacos, fajitas, burritos, etc. Turkish cuisine is over-rated, the most famous food in Turkish cuisine is kebab, but the original kebabs were made by Persians. The next best cuisine is Thai cuisine. The next best cuisine is Japanese cuisine. American cuisine is just a variation of different cuisines from around the world. French cuisine is shit (I don't want to eat snails, fuck off). In last place is English 'cuisine', which consists of objects that vaguely resemble food.

>doesn't even list france
butthurt brit confirmed. french cuisine is universally considered to be the world's finest, with Italy being a close second. there's a reason no one goes to an "english restaurant" for fine dining, but to french and italian establishments instead.

I've personally heard of those because my parents were serious Anglophiles and I've actually been to Britain before, but I can guarantee you that the average american has NOT heard of the following;

>Vindaloo.
>Balit Curry.
>Baked Beans in Tomato Sauce (baked beans sure but not in tomato sauce).
>Knickerbocker Glory.
>Mars Bar (older people sure, younger people almost definitely not).
>Buck's Fizz.
>Curry Sauce (most people would associate it with India).
>Tourndos Rossini (99% sure that's French).
>Bakewell Tart.

Also you can't get Haggis in the US, pretty sure some of the offal used is banned by the USDA.

USA is all over the place.
I just ate at a glorious Cajun place that ought to by itself compete with any other national cuisine (spiced fried shrimp, crawdad etouffee, lobster bisque, fried okra, cornbread), but I wouldn't put conventional US junk food up against Japanese street and kiosk fast food like donburi, tonkatsu, takoyaki and yakitori.

In 1662 the English scientist Christopher Merret presented a paper to the Royal Society in London explaining a more reliable method of making wine sparkle - this is the procedure which became known as methode champenoise and is now universally followed in the French region. It is not clear whether Merret invented the method or merely codified it, but he was certainly several years ahead of the French wine-maker monk Dom Perignon.

The second English contribution was the bottle. Around the same time as Merret, Sir Robert Mansell's factories in Newcastle-on-Tyne were able to make the first glass bottles strong enough to safely withstand the pressure of a sparkling wine.

The third English contribution was when Perrier-Jouët, in response to demands from their English dealers, prepared an unsweetened 'brut' Champagne specifically for the British market. This is the style of wine which is now known as 'Champagne' the world over.

I guess, it's more about experimenting: if you want to achieve something very tasty, you should experiment a lot which implies getting something terrible (Shokugeki no Souma is actually an anime about it)
Compare it to Russian or Czech cuisine, where everything is 100% safe, but there're no really outstanding dishes, no world-famous tastes. We're just playing it safe, I guess. But, huh, щи and coлянкa kick ass anyway.

The empananda looking pastries are samboucik, which I guess is probably similar in terms of texture.

Then there's falafel, dolma, fatayer, hummous, tabbouleh, baba ghanoush, what looks like some kind of marinaded chicken wings, and that quintessential Levantine dish, chips.

If Britain does become part of the calpiphate then one positive to take is that this kind of food would be more available.

I don't know where exactly you are in America but there should be an authentic barbecue place somewhere nearby. Seriously look up your town/city followed by the word "barbecue" and you should get something. The thing is in the US most really decent food costs somewhere in the $10-$25 mark per meal, higher if you're going somewhere fancy.

It's really annoying that so many people think of our food as just being fast food. We have something like a dozen radically different schools of cooking in this country with dozens of variations within them.

>PORTUGUESE CURRY (VINDALOO OR BINDALOO) This well-known Portuguese curry can only be made properly of beef, pork, or duck.

Most of the recipes in use today are traced back to English cookery books.

>Balti Curry

>The first written reference given by the OED is an advertisement in the 'Heathan ' of Balsall Heath, Birmingham in July 8th 1982; "Specialists in kebab, tikah, balti meats tandoori chicken and all kinds of curry."

>The distinctively English style of Balti cooking seems to have first appeared in restaurants in Birmingham in the 1980's, though as late as 1984 a correspondent to the Curry Club's Magazine had to ask, "What is a Balti?"

>Scotch Eggs

n the 18th and 19th Centuries there was a considerable trade in exporting eggs from Scotland, by coastal ships, to the London markets. These were preserved and toughened for the journey by dipping the whole shell-on egg in boiling water, leaving the eggs semi-hardened, and then packing them dusted with a lime-powder disinfectant, a process known as 'scotching'. This left them perfectly edible for months, but slightly discoloured. It is possible that the forcemeat covering was developed as an ideal method of serving these sound, but not-so-pretty, 'scotch eggs'.

Lol.

It's just made popular by russians, but red caviar is widely used in Japan as well (and they don't pickle it). The black one is actually too hard to get and doesn't actually contribute to dishes as contrasted to other expensive ingridients like truffel or shaffron. But, yeah, probably only famous thing from here.

Wow, nice to know щи is known somewhere out of Slav countries. I mean, бopщ is a meme, but щи is much less talked about. This stew, by the way, is best eaten not fresh out of stove, but infused for about a single day. Also, there's "green щи" made of rumex, it's almost unknown, but this is by far the best variety.

I believe Tournedos Rossini was invented by Antoine Careme whilst working in England, leading a team of English cooks.

In regards to Black Forest Gateau, its distinctly English version, popularised by Marguerite Patten in her 1978 'The Epicure's Book of Steak and Beef Dishes', is significantly different to the original German Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte which is necessarily prepared using a high proportion of Kirschwasser or a similar strong spirit liqueur, has less chocolate and is invariably entirely covered, sides as well as top, with cream.

You would even have fucking sparkling wine unless we had invented the bottles that could hold the increased pressure. Are you deficient in your mental capability?

>no shit? so it was literally impossible to make lasagne.
Loseyns has been recognised as the origin of Lasagne, being layers of pasta with a stewed meat broth and a cheese sauce. It is more likely that the Old English 'Loseyns' and Italian 'Lasagne' both derive from the layered pasta 'lagana' dishes known to the Romans and as far back as the 1st century BC writings of Horace. However, Loseyns or Lossenges appears elsewhere in Old English cookbooks (Austin 1440, Noble Boke 1480) as a simple pasta shape. Sorry the truth hurts leaf.

>writing down recipes doesn't mean you invented the food. there's no source that points to either vindaloo or balti curry being invented by brits.

The origin of the name is very unclear, it may be connected with the distinctive round-bottomed Chinese-type cooking or service vessels used, from the Hindi word for 'bucket', or it may be the name of an ethnic group or a region of Northern Pakistan.

The first written reference given by the OED is an advertisement in the 'Heathan ' of Balsall Heath, Birmingham in July 8th 1982; "Specialists in kebab, tikah, balti meats tandoori chicken and all kinds of curry."

Did you read the fucking sentence? The Scotch egg (An egg wrapped in a forcemeat and then breadcrumbed) is literally English. We made the dish to disguise the fact that 'SCOTCHING' them, discoloured the egg and thus by covering them in meat it diguised this.

You don't actually drink Russian vodka. It's harsher than all the export versions - that's how Russians love it. Just to compare: I have shots of Absolut almost like water, but when I do Beluga (premium russian one) I start searching for picked something to beat the taste.
I love Polish vodka the most, lol.

Best dishes are
Бopщ - beetroot soup with beef, ukranians make it the best. Tasty with a slice of lard, rye bread and a shot of vodka.
Щи - sour cabbage (like "kraut", but in here it's very firm, just like non-pickled cabbage) soup
Coлeныe oгypцы - "salted cucumbers", a nice thing to beat cheap russian vodka off-taste
Somehow, we don't have any famous "main dishes", because peasants ate stews or kashas and aristocrats ate French cuisine. Standard russian main dish is buckwheat kasha (you call it just "kasha" it means "porrige" in russian) with braised beef.
Also, there're a lot of different pies like paccтeгaи (Moscow-style fish pies)

True, but Germany only had its colonies for a short while, so there was only a small amount of ethnic Germans over there, too small for intercultural culinary exchange. The Netherlands had the Dutch East Indies for four centuries and a lot of the food has found its way into the Netherlands. Rijsttafel and even deep fried, breaded discs of nasi goreng are Dutch food.
