All intellectuals go to university. The ideas of the left do not work, so the only place that they can propagate is in universities where ideas do not need to work to spread. As a result, most intellectuals get brainwashed into the cult while studying, it takes a strong mind to resist it and think for yourself. And out of those few who resist the brainwashing, only half would be Republican

People in academia tend to be leftists because big government is literally their life-blood, and how they survive. I know this because I have lived and worked in academia for 3 years as a graduate student.
>get money for living from the government
>can apply for additional money from the government
>contribute no value to society, so only option is to live off welfare
>plus, everyone else is leftist, since that's how echo chambers work
Yeah, technically I was a "student," but I did have responsibilities teaching undergrad classes, and I did receive a paycheck. The professors are just glorified versions of what I was. The only difference is number of responsibilities and that they get more money.

Then again, being a graduate student was what finally convinced me that my future did not lie in academia.

This. I bet if you polled actual R&D scientists from companies like Space X, Monsanto, Pfizer, etc., you'd find a lot more conservatives, but somehow these people aren't considered "scientists" because their employers own their intellectual property and they don't get to put their names on it.

I'm in grad school for pharmacology and have worked in academic science for over four years. Here's what's good.

I think overall I've met one scientist (M.D. PhD) who was an open lefty. She's a middle aged woman btw and she's very aggressive about her support of Hillary which is pretty unprofessional in my opinion.

Everyone else either won't talk politics or is absolutely uninterested in politics. It's best not to get into politics since hurting someone's feelings can get you into trouble with your institution.

Mostly I just think anyone who cares enough about science fields to do academia over higher paid industry is just a autism lord and could care less.

Also scientists in the private sector are still considered scientists by academics. Supposedly that wasn't always the case but shit changed and people are disillusioned with academia these days.

As far as funding goes there is very little government funding these days and an insanely saturated pool of people applying for grants. Most people are now looking for other routes of funding as either their sole source of research bux or as a supplement. And just to dispel any myths about grant money, professors can't use it to buy cars and shit, the university takes the money and puts it into a research fund and gives you your grant money only for things you put onto a purchase requisition. They also partially own anything you patent during your career at the institution

>>74826885
I would love to know the sauce on that poll.

University professors? I can believe that most are registered democrat. why? They want tenure and know damn well if they are GOP or Independent / Libertarian they will never get tenure. So they lie about their political belief to get Tenure and to stay off the radar of the new progressive inquisition.

Scientists in business? Often times they have to deal with people who have no business being considered their "equals" and those are the kind of people who will go to HR to report anything that "offends" them. So they keep their political views to themselves.

source - ME. I work for a large pharmaceutical company in a management capacity and nobody but NOBODY knows I am voting for Trump. I even had several SJW co-workers ask me (in a group) why I wasn't a registered Democrat. (Lucky for me I am registered Independent - I figured this might happen and I wanted to be prepared). I told them that I don't like labels so I go with Independent. One of them said to me "How can you vote for Bernie Sanders then?" and she literally pulled out a registration card and wanted me to fill it out.

(I of course told them that I was Independent and would remain that way. They were visibly angry and left in a puff.)

So you want to know why many conservatives are not out in the open in not just science? Now you know.

BTW - it is progressives that are the anti-science types. They are the book burners and the "safe space" types that demand no thinking and just follow and do what they are told.

I really shouldn't be wasting me time with you. You shouldn't need hand-holding here.

Are the left not also embarrassing? Think of how anti-science they are. They accept global warming when it suits their interests of taxing, micromanaging society, etc. But as soon as science presents a solution (such as nuclear power), they ignore it and resort to their feels. there are countless examples of this.

Also, why do you find the need to "associate" with the Right? Such single-dimensional thinking is dangerous.

If you can validate the need to associate yourself with the "Right", then do your best to break whatever bad images are out there.

eh.

the thing is, the data for climate studies past 100 years ago are really, really shitty.

additionally, things like ice cores and tree rings only give info about relative climate, and are noisy as fuck because there are more things than just climate that affect both

when you consider geological time, I'd say the data we have are insignificant due to noise and sample size.

I fully acknowledge that something catastrophic could happen before we as a species obtain sufficient data if it's happening as quickly as they claim, but to say it's a scientific certainty is disingenuous.

>>74826885
Science requires a certain naivete to perform. Sure scientists are smart, but they are also naive. Their notion of niggers is shaped by the top percentile black intellectuals they encounter in their circles. Their notion of society is based on idealism and trust. When someone among them dares to expose the truths they don't like they bully him like a bunch of kids and cut him off and stop talking to him. That happened to Watson of all people just because he stated some facts about Africa and niggers. The guy had to sell his Nobel prize medal.

When you let scientists rule you it's either ugly and outright wrong - if the scientists in question are redpilled - or it's retarded and leftist and doesn't last for very long - which is what happened at the dusk of every great nation in history, just before they slid into complete darkness of global irrelevance.

Scientists don't have to deal with knuckledragging niggers everyday, so that helps with being "tolerant".

Scientists care disproportionately about science (big surprise I know), and republicans being consistently anti-science and anti-intellectual for a while didn't endear scientists to them.

And finally because scientists care so much about science they don't have so much room left to care as much as we do about politics, Jews and their misdeeds, creeping Marxism, savage niggers and so on.

Climate change refers to the same thing global warming did. The term was changed because global warming is accurate (the earth's mean temperature is actually increasing), however, some areas will actually see colder mean temperatures (hence global warming is misleading). Also, CO2 really isn't the issue. The main issue is CFCs, N2O, and NH4 which are also caused by human intervention, but are several times more potent greenhouse gasses than CO2 (fluorinated gases have greenhouse gas potentials on the order of a couple 10,000x higher than CO2, N2O is something like 200-300x more potent than CO2, and NH4 is 25x more potent). They may be less common, but those are the gases doing most of the damage.

Reality is that most people don't really have a clear ideology that they follow. They just adopt whatever is most convenient for them in their current situation and since academia is mostly left-wing, it is going to attract that kind of person. If you are not really into politics or just don't care, life is going to be so much easier for you if you just nod and agree with whatever crap that the left spouts.

A paper talking about this problem in social psychology: https://www.researchgate.net/publication/283906422_It_may_be_harder_than_we_thought_but_political_diversity_will_still_improve_social_psychological_science
From the abstract:
>Psychologists have demonstrated the value of diversity – particularly diversity of viewpoints – for enhancing creativity, discovery, and problem solving. But one key type of viewpoint diversity is lacking in academic psychology in general and social psychology in particular:political diversity. This article reviews the available evidence and finds support for four claims: (1) Academic psychology once had considerable political diversity, but has lost nearly all of it in the last 50 years. (2) This lack of political diversity can undermine the validity of social psychological science via mechanisms such as the embedding of liberal values into research questions and methods, steering researchers away from important but politically unpalatable research topics, and producing conclusions that mischaracterize liberals and conservatives alike. (3) Increased political diversity would improve social psychological science by reducing the impact of bias mechanisms such as confirmation bias, and by empowering dissenting minorities to improve the quality of the majority’s thinking.(4) The underrepresentation of non-liberals in social psychology is most likely due to a combination of self-selection, hostile climate, and discrimination. We close with recommendations for increasing political diversity in social psychology

However, the right's infatuation with young earth creationism (fortunately, that's going away) and climate change denial (that's actually a pretty big problem) actually infests republican politicians.

All normally educated people who stay in school, get academic careers, go into business, will be more "american liberal" than "american conservative". The reason for this is that the school system and most higher forms of intellectual discourse has a very strong bias towards liberalism, which leads to learned liberalism. Not only are these people thinking highly of themselves, but they think highly of their opinions which are now of liberal values. In addition, it's not very profitable to be controversial, so once the status quo is liberal, you best stick to it lest you lose out on a lot of opportunities for a really terrible reason.

Media, research, and scientific documents have a very blatant skew towards liberalism, which simply helps reinforce the same skew in the next generation of alterable younguns. That is to say, this has been going on for a few generations by now, which is why there is such a significant lead towards liberalism. A lot of "normal" people don't have nearly as strong opinions of liberalism as they like to mention at times, but they simply need to fit in so that they don't become outcasts socially and economically.

You'll see that there are the same amount of conservatives from subhuman iq to genius iq, this is because conservatism is not affected by propaganda in the least. You will however see a very large spike in liberalism in the iq range above 100 but below 130. These people are smart, above average, but most of all impressionable. They won't see their own flaws or the tricks they've fallen for throughout their upbringing and will honestly think they're smart and honestly think that anyone who disagrees with their overly reasonable and logical opinions is an idiot. They cannot even imagine anyone not accepting the terribly levelheaded opinions they have without expressing ill will.

"red states" also have the most niggers. So is it the niggers in their vicinity eating up the welfare that make them conservative?

Biology Masters student here. The vast majority of scientists, like people generally, are not actually very critical thinkers. They are problem solvers who work within the dominant paradigm but don't question it. Same with politics. It just happens that the left currently has political hegemony, it wasn't always that way.

Also, much of the republican party genuinely is anti-science e.g denies evolution. This turns off a lot of people who agree with right wing politics more generally.

Ya I think Molyneux had a guest on that said Marxism is "intellectual heroin" or something like that.

Well if you consider that taking global warming as a scientific fact equates with being liberal maybe. I really doubt that is the truth though considering how people who push themselves through STEM usually come from a rather strict and elitist backround. Reminder that Republicans are the only ones that actually expand support for the sciences when they are in power. Democrats see science budgets as an easy place to cut funding so they can move the money to fund more of their social programs.

Even black science guy agrees that republicans are more pro-science.

> -gender is a social construct
It is though. Sex is male/female and is objective.

Gender is masculine/feminine and comes from language and culture. Things like whether it's unmanly to cross your legs is different across cultures and most non-western languages don't apply gender to objects the way Latin-based languages do.
>>
Ya gender is a social construct agreed. You can't change your sex though.

Christian science is a religion, you mongoloid. It was found by Mary Baker Eddy in the 19th century. It isn't an application of science to achieve political goals, the name is basically a coincidence. Science is largely apolitical. There are some facts that politicians have made into issues where people assume there are two sides, though. Climate change has mountains of empirical data backing it up, and there is a scientific consensus that this is what's happening.

>>74832592
It is still completely related to sex. Social constructs didn't appear magically considering gender roles also appear in nature. And we don't need to follow them and subjugate ourselves to some evolutionary thing in our modern world, but it seems stupid to claim that because it is a social structure it means it isn't real or a part of us or neccesarily bad. An almost constant gender role is that men need to impress women and women need to give consent and it is still kind off the same game today. But yea, marriage is not something you really see in nature but it has been found quite effective in society for many reasons.

Language and culture comes from time not pure human genius.

Not an argument. Sex you are born with, gender is based on characteristics of men and women, but now those characteristics are overlapping and becoming more confusing. Gender can literally be anything at this point it is really tough to argue it's a solid thing like sex.

I was a phd student, I'm a mix of far right and left myself.
I would national socialism far more than libertarian society. Because of the roads, you know.
I'm pretty sure that if I didn't got into science, I would be far right only.

I guess it's a mix of everything in the thread, scientists are:
Outcast childs, maybe even bullied, who dream of a society who treat the weak better.
Living from gov funding. Even in economy, they make a lot of money from corporations, but still need academic positions to do that. The other don't earn a lot.
Finding progressive ideas appealing. Scientists feel like part of this progress, so that means something to them. And Republicans often oppose christian and moral values to progressive ideas, totally subjective, this progressive ideas just seem more objective.

regarding the poll:
I guess 6% being republican doesn't means the other 94% are democrats, I think a lot of them are just apolitics and just want to fuck around with science. Scientists are either people who have a strong opinion or not give a fuck at all. I would not be surprised if it's 6% republicans, 18% democrats and other don't give a fuck.
Also I guess I would not include humanities and social sciences in the poll, because it's not science, and get far higher result, if they even did a poll at first and didn't get the 6% out of their asses.

Sure, but that isn't relevant here.

> what are you going to do next anyways, pull up statistics about how Republicans and conservatives have less IQ than Democrats?

I wasn't going to, but I could. Them being considerably less educated also points in the same direction. Science denial is also far more pervasive among republican politicians than democratic politicians even though both sides have their own forms of science denial.

> um yeah that happened awhile ago, get with the times

No it didn't, there are still several congressmen who openly claim that the earth was created 6000 years ago or will avoid acknowledging the age of the earth for fear of angering their base. You can deny it all you want, but that doesn't make it any less true.

> they reason that climate change is just hyped up sensationalism

No, the majority of people who think it's a hoax think that because that's the political line. A lot of people vote straight ticket and will change their views to get in line with their party. Because many republicans (and even the republican party as a whole) have claimed that climate change is a hoax, a lot of people will go along with it because that's the conservative (what they see as the correct side) viewpoint on the issue even though (or largely because) they don't understand it.

I never said they are. I just said that poor people (more accurately poor people from rural or southern states) are more likely to vote republican. Because poor whites make up the majority of the poor bracket of voters (blacks and hispanics vote significantly less than whites, especially when they're poor) it is accurate to say that the poor are more likely to vote republican. This also explains why even predominantly white states that go red are still taking in the most federal welfare.

ok, one last post from me. it addresses your arguments and points in a more orderly and coherent fashion

so, your argument is, republicans/conservatives are retarded. or at least that's what you've been trying to prove itt.

so, first you say, its because science denial/no republican scientists

but wait, democrats do a ton of science denial! you cant prove on a solid scale how much more republicans are into science denial than democrats, and you obviously have a confirmation bias (as do I lel), so basically, science denial doesnt really help your argument that republicans/conservatives are retarded too much, if at all.

so, denied having that point to shore up your argument, you then go on to say, republicans/conservatives are retarded because they are all poor and on welfare

but wait, tons of fucking democrats are the same way. spics and nigs especially. you bring up lists of the top welfare states but as we've discussed more or less, there is no solid correlation between political ideology and your likeliness to be on welfare.

bring up those IQ charts showing republicans are dumber than democrats, but wait, why are dumbass blacks and beaners voting democrats if democrats are supposed to be so smart?

overall, republicans are not one giant herd of ignoramuses as you try to argue, and democrats are in fact, not a part of educated people. even if you take the spics and nigs out of the democratic party, there are plenty of dumbass hippies and the like in the democratic party.

Let's say you're on a ship called "fossil fuels." This ship is sinking. You can debate whether it was "global warming" or "energy independence from the saudis" that caused the ship to begin sinking, but nonetheless, you want to get off that ship. One the one hand, you have a pristine lifeboat that is actually superior to the ship you're on, ready to be launched at a moment's notice. This lifeboat is called "nuclear power." It's a well-developed baseload power source that's low cost, low emission, and high output (basically, the economic/environmental win-win). Next to it, you see a pile of balsa wood called "solar energy" and next to that you see a pile of legos called "wind." Now, imagine a raging autist coming up to you, calling you an antiscience bigot redneck who needs to recognize that the ship is sinking due to global warming, and that the best solution is to invest time and energy into building up solar and wind while disregarding the presence of a ready-to-go solution that's objectively better in almost every way. The university system is the core of where the infiltration of communist ideas seeped into the west during the Cold War (see: hippies). That cancer remains today and so many who go through the system come out brainwashed.

I've got postgrad qualifications and I don't there is a single academic out there who can say they haven't sat through a lecture where the lecturer hasn't tried to fit in some lefty brainwashing.

You're the idiot here. Nuclear is not as risky as you make it out to be. All the japs had to do was build a wall. As for terrorism, there are these things called guns we can use to keep them away from the nuclear power plant.

Guns and walls. It's that fucking simple.

You think no one has thought of terrorist attacks? What the fuck are you smoking?

If a nuclear plant gets hit by terrorists more people are going to die from the attack than from whatever happens to the nuclear plant.
More people would die if terrorists decided to attack a solar panel than if something went wrong with a nuclear plant.

If we're talking about multiple armed gunmen with bombs you have to be retarded to think they would target a nuclear plant. They would kill more people if they decided to attack an airport. There's a reason these fags are targeting airports, planes and street, and not nuclear plants.
If nuclear plants were as scary as you think they would be the first target.

You keep citing Fukushima like a retard. That was the worst case scenario that killed 0 (zero) people. More people died from the earthquake that caused the meltdown.

12,000 years ago Canada was covered with ice sheets up to and over 3000' thick. It's not here now. Maybe changing the c02 concentration from0.03% cO2 to 0.04% isn't the holy grail of ice melting. Also, agricultural greenhouse gas has a larger impact on the atmospheres composition than c02. The first climate change doomsdayers said we would be living in small nomadic tribes right now canabalizing each other on a schorl he'd earth. It's the same as these religious types that set a date for the end time date every few years. They get everyone who believes them to shit their pants and it's so easy to manipulate them after that. Oh my god we're going to die! Listen to me I am the only one who can save you with my solution cause you'll die!

Stop sugar-coating shit, this is why lefties go apeshit and start banning nuclear energy. I agree with you, but lying about risks is the first step to not getting what you fucking want. You ever consider that nuclear energy would probably be more widespread if people in the public actually talked about the issue and risks rather than say IT'S A DEATHTRAP/IT'S 100% SAFE NOTHING CAN HAPPEN

>>74836901
>i think damage is only measured in numbers of direct deaths and not in complete relocation of population and assets of an entire region and concerns about how or if the land can be used at all in the near future
>nobody died in the explosion but the fact that an entire region had to be relocated, which cost the government loads of money, and the land could have been made completely inhospitable for many years has absolutely no societal or financial imapct

I can make stupid reductionist arguments too.

Regarding terrorist attacks, yes, the current political climate is to target dense population areas out of fear mongering. At some point, they will realize that fear mongering is a stupid tactic if their goal is taking down western civilization. You give mudslimes less credit than they are due. Underestimating them is the same logic that the left used for extreme far right. Some Imam will look at western tactics and think "maybe cutting off their supply chain would actually be a better war strategy" and suddenly your "oh terrorists only attack airports" plan is fucking useless isn't it?

And on top of that, when the fuck did I say nobody thought about terrorist attacks? My point was it's stupid to say that the damages of a well executed terrorist attack on a wind farm and a nuclear power plant were equivalent, assuming they were both successful. The whole point of my post is that I agree with nuclear energy but it's stupid to pretend it's as innocuous as solar/wind.

You guys are obsessed with sugarcoating, even with people who agree with your goal.

Oh boy i love this comics.

I dont even like republicans it always laughable like liberals and leftis use this statistics to prove somethin

But dont dare to say 50% of the murders belong to black people, or that black people have shitty Iq tests thats racist

You're very ignorant about nuclear power. The reason why Chernobyl happened wasn't negligence, it was borderline sabotage. And Fukushima was entirely preventable by having a seawall. Educate yourself, nigger.
>>
>>74837436
Also, a terrorist attack on a nuclear power plant would be about as successful as a terrorist attack on a nuclear missile silo. Fucking prisons aren't as secure as nuclear power plants. You're exaggerating the risks of nuclear power to a comical extent.
>>
>>74837436
You're very ignorant about why terrorists choose the targets they do

Fear mongering is not stupid at all its extremely effective
Look at how many politicians the world over get elected through fear mongering
Look at momentous legislation that passes because of fear mongering

>attack the supply chain
With what fucking army are you going to destroy American agriculture and industry?

Christ m8 use that fuckn noggin of yours

Generally speaking republicans go for where the money and power is. Generally speaking scientists have zero of both.

Go look up your top lawyers, business men, doctors and other lucrative fields. Go do the poll there. Doctors might be quite liberal though...
