AMD GPUs are great for the money. Unless you're going for a balls-to-the-walls build at the super high-end, AMD is the better bet.
Their GPUs also last longer, I remember when the GTX 770 and R9 280x were neck and neck in a lot of games, but nowadays even in games that favor Nvidia, the 280x performs closer to the 780 and leaves the 770 in the dust.
