I once worked for this restaurant that didn't pay its workers properly.
I was a food runner for over a year, getting paid $25-$40 a day for a working on the weekends while going to school. I was sleeping on the couches of several friends I had and ate only ramen and chef boyarde.
I never complained, I never demanded more, I never became sour. The job sucked and I was treated like crap, but I was still thankful. These kids getting paid $9.00 a day for flipping burgers and serving food do not understand how good they have it. Sure, not as good as their parents but it is still a good life. Well anything which is created primarily through cheap human labour with minimum other costs is going to pretty much double in price if you double the wage the business has to pay.
The entire supply chain will be effected so even businesses that don't employ many people but do buy things in a supply chain will have higher costs and so have to put their product prices up.
When one thing costs $0.25 more that's fine, when the entire enconomy is going up significantly then it's a problem.
And who does raising costs of living effect the most? The people with least money of course. Most people with good jobs are going to see relative wage increases as the min wage goes up because there has to be enough of a demand for highly skilled workers, as min wage goes up people are more likely to skip education and make better paid jobs harder to fill thus increasing the value of those jobs and the wages they pay.

Venezuela has a socialist gouvernment that imposed price controls and nationalised almost everything in the name of equal opportunity, wealth and prosperity. It sits on the world largest oil reserves and heavily subsidises all aspects of life.
Electricity is practically free, petrol costs 5 cents a litre, and healthcare is free for all citizens.
Venezuela has run out of electricity. A drought has taken their hydro-electric power plants out of commission and they in all their environmental wisdom neglected to build backup generators.
Healthcare, thanks to a lack of investment in new equipment and trained personnel is now unavailable. Spending money of this would have necessitated costs for the public, and that of course is a socialist no-go.
It doesn't help either that there's no food or toilet paper, since the price of products is below the costs of production. You can attribute that to gouvernment imposed price ceilings.
If the Soviet Union wasn't a strong enough example of gouvernment interference in the market being disastrous for everyone, Venezuela should be. Free the market and incentivise fresh entrepreneurs so they can compete with the large corporations. Deregulate.

I'm working at an ad agency that pays shit and is the definition of a dead end job. I'm currently interviewing at other places that offer competitive pay.
With that being said, I think it's fucking insane that anybody would even think about making a burger flipping a career. Even at my office job I can see that it wasn't gonna get better so I decided to look elsewhere. These fast food places aren't meant for mid 20 year olds. If you haven't had a job that requires skill by a certain age them you're fucked.

Part time jobs were increased when government stepped in and told businesses to offer benefits to full time workers. A few months ago there was talk in the UK of making the voting age 16. All the protests against voter ID laws that keep happening are waged under the cry of "They're denying suffrage to poor people!" I think that you should be humble and realize that there may be aspects of a CEO's job that you don't realize exist because, and I'm going to take a guess, you've never been in that position or talked to anybody who is. Hey neither have I but I think the right attitude is to be inquisitive rather than judgemental.
What I can tell you from my limited knowledge of the job is that CEO's are payed to mostly be people persons: to manage the gigantic and often times patronizing egos of department heads.
Department heads, and again I'm going to take another guess, are more accomplished than you and I will ever be: they have PHDs from top schools in their field and have tons of experience. So their egos are immense. Getting them all to work together without resorting to fist fights is honestly beyond me. It takes a special kind of person to be able to smooth over really egotistical people and getting them to work together. All while maintaining your dignity, I might add, since you can't have those people walking over you and getting what is in their best interest at the expense of the company or other departments.
It takes a really smooth and clever talker to do that, and that alone I think justifies them being there.

That's literally the opposite of being true. They're almost completely not replaceable because there's so few successful CEOs which is what drives up their wage.
Supply and demand and the supply of CEOs who have proven they can run a business and make it efficient and profitable is astonishingly small.
The "real engine" is the workforce but if that engine is driving the business off a cliff then it will go under, and the business has to remain competative in the marketplace vs other businesses otherwise it will go under. That's why CEOs are paid so much.
In large businesses the CEO and the upper management report to the board of directors who basically are (or service) the investors of the business. The board decides to give CEOs the wage and bonuses they get based on goals to improve the business.
The investors who get a return on their investment want the biggest return and so they would never consent to paying CEOs massive amounts of money that it worth more than that CEO saves the business through innovation or whatever.
One of the biggest issues that low paid, entry level or low skilled employees have is a chip on their shoulder for management and CEOs, and it's bad enough that it just plain wrong but it actually holds those people back. Actually understanding the system and how it works is how you actually get ahead in the system. These people need a proper education, economics 101 would be a great start.
