I used to work for few of the best IT companies in India (including some self-claimed best in the world). These places were mediocre hell-cats-code-typing assembly lines. Nobody knew what the fuck they were doing. Only 5% of the people i knew could write decent code. But sadly even their skills were never used except at the times when they in turn hired someone new and interviewed them. People were hired aggressively because the clients in the US were asking for more economy of scale. So the quality went down. Many couldn't even write proper e-mails, let alone a Fibonacci sequence.
During the interviews people thought they were going to be hackers but in reality all they were hacking was their future. I shudder to think what their future would be like with hire and fire system of overseas companies in India.
Soon i was sent to the US on a project where i met my client side programmers. These guys made me think. They were the real programmers. They got paid almost 3 times as much as me, were properly educated in software engineering basics and extremely happy with their lives. I learned a lot from them but about myself mostly. I eventually realized i knew absolutely nothing and was in the wrong profession.
I quit after ~5 years in IT because the mediocrity of every place i ever worked made me realize i am not an authentic computer programmer as I had been told throughout my college years by my peers and the people who hired me. I was just another stat in the cost benefit analysis. My limited skill was never tested. I never wrote any code that went into production, just tinkered here and there. I ended up being clinically depressed and almost killed myself.
This was almost 9 years back. Now i have a business degree from an ivy league US university and my own business here. I love my job now, make 5 times as much and Thank God everyday i went to the USA to see authenticity. Thanks America, you saved my life.

This is really not such a bad thing. The Pajeets write such horrible code that companies are waking up to the fact that they need massive security departments, which they pay handsomely. If you look at nearly every major data breach recently, it was at a company that hired Indian programmers (or they didn't hire one directly, but used one of those Indian staffing firms to essentially rent a programmer from them).
Last year, IBM opened a facility in my town. They got the approval partly because they promised it would bring a lot of tech jobs for local workers. When they started hiring, hardly a single person who already lives here got a job. Not only would they hire only Indians, but they rented out their Indians to other companies, displacing a lot of IT workers already here. That's basically what IBM is becoming, just another Indian staffing company like Infosys and Tata, since they've been shedding more and more of their software and hardware divisions. If you could get a job in IT here, it was cleaning up Pajeet's mess by rewriting his code to make it actually work, but because you weren't the actual programmer, you would make even less than Pajeet's pretty low salary.
In just the past couple weeks, I start getting calls and emails from staffing companies and directly from employers. They're not the calls or emails I got last year, where they were obviously looking to disqualify me so they could claim they couldn't find an American able to do the work. When they ask what kind of salary I'm looking for and I answer with the number I have come to expect over the past year, they sometimes end up saying they are willing to pay twice as much. All the jobs involve penetration testing, malware analysis, forensics, event response, disaster recovery and the like. These Pajeets are a blessing if security is your thing.

I'm a current grad CS student. The building literally smells like shit and curry. I walked in into my class and I smelled a horrible potent odor. I went to an ABET accredited D2 school and I know more and have a better job than a lot of kids who got cs degrees at the big state schools in my state.
