What will you do when online anonymity is made illegal and it will literally be impossible to post any opinion on any website without it having your real name and a photo of you attached to it?

This WILL happen in the next five to ten years in the name of "fighting cyberbullying, racism and sexism"
>>
It's not like making it illegal will stop it from happening, it will just make the people who do it escalate things much higher because everybody will go "holy shit this guy isn't a troll he has GovID verification!"

Ending anonymity is handing keys to the Internet lynch mob. You make a pro-Trump post, your workplace WILL be called with thousands of boycott threats until YOU are fired.

And America has the First Amendment (for now.) If you're Germany, or Canada, or Britain, or even AUSTRALIA, you're never going to get to shitpost again for the rest of your life because the Human Rights Commission WILL be at your door, handcuffs in hand, for your "anti-social behavior"

Actually it is quite the opposite.

Anonymity allows you to say things without feeling hurt by the crowd if they turn out to be unoleasant or wrong.

So the benefit is that you can actually put something on the table without fearing repercussions to your public image.

How many times do you let it go just to avoid direct conflict? How many times you keep your mouth shut just because you are outnumbered? How many times you would like to share something without putting all of your life on the line?

Ideas shouldn't be life threatening for those who express them and anonymity is the best way to ensure they aren't.

The thing is these policies are being pushed by people with the "least controversial" views possible, who often already openly make all of their Internet comments with their own names and photos attached.

Think of somebody like Wil Wheaton or John Green, shitposting all over Reddit, and Tumblr, and Facebook, and Twitter, with his ugly mug always attached, about the importance of trans bathroom rights and how Bernie Sanders is the greatest thing to ever happen to America and about how wanting to own a gun is a sign of racism.

As enraging as the posts are, I can't actually relate to this. While I haven't actually had any female coworkers that were programmers in almost 5 years, I had worked with a handful of female students in college. None of them had over-commented code. The worst I could say was that a lot of times their code was less efficient than it could have been (or flat out wrong), but I think that had more to do with them being students than being women, since many male students had those issues too.

I guess I got lucky that I've only coded with women who legitimately enjoyed it and weren't doing it just because being a "nerd" is trendy now. High level languages were a mistake.

Gibson wrote about something like this in one of the sequels to Neuromancer

A virtual community called "Walled City", named after Kowloon, which existed off the grid and outside of any state jurisdiction. It was like a huge open-source project that everyone contributed to in order to keep it anonymous and free

They both work, but the one the guy did is much shorter and thus takes less time.

interesting. With a beefy enough server to run all that shit it could actually be possible to dynamically attach individual forums to individual websites or even pages. Maybe because it's a niche service and, if I'm reading this conversation correctly, it's because a comment section is generated for each webpage. If I were to create something like this, I'd call it ChanNet, and it'd create the equivalent of a very small 4chan board, but for every website.

I only ever browse 4chan on starbucks wifi using a stolen laptop that I trash immediately afterwords, and I melt the hard drive and network adapter so they can't track any MAC addresses or recover any compromising data.

>there are people on /pol/ right now who dont do this
>>
>>74620132
It's like Twitter, trivial to make but hard as fuck to scale properly.
Let's say you have one database per cluster of websites, and a table for each website.

[DB] -> [table]
........................ROW 1: Home
........................ROW 2: Section index
........................ROW 3: Article 1
........................ROW 4: Article 2
...

And suddenly you have billions of rows and thousands of tables and databases. How the fuck do you scale that shit?

Do you create the rows on the fly as users post comments instead of crawling the web? That would make it easier on the server, but managing it is still far, far from trivial. I think you're acting like it's a Pset for school or something.
>>
>>74620285
this.
Growing up my parents bought into the whole cyberstalker-child-abductor-pedo-controlled internet craze and I internalized all that "don't post your name, don't post pics (could have addresses in the background/reflections), don't tell people age, don't talk to strangers, don't say gender, etc" shit.

Thinking about it now, the fact I internalized those concepts at a young age is probably why I'm now on 4chan instead of facejew and paranoid.
>>
>>74612489
>his eyebrows grow towards his face

>>74612712
>not just putting a piece of tape over the webcam when you're not using it.
>>
>>74620691
I was thinking it might make sense to distribute the system across groups of users.
Sort of like a torrent based system where people who are part of your commenting group can query you for your comments and you can query them.
This way the computing power of the system scales with the number of users.

I don't know, I'm just pulling this out of my ass.
>>
>>74620691
In my classes we've mostly covered enterprise functions like network/server management and professional application development. I'm in no way intending to come off as an expert on forums, social media, or website management. Merely just throwing my two cents in with a shitty conceptual diagram on the general idea of how something would work.

>This WILL happen in the next five to ten years

Yeah they were saying the same thing in 2006.
>>
>>74620691
Huh? It's super trivial. Of course you don't crawl the web and try to save a new id per page. It's as simple as 2 tables: url, topicid; topicid, postid, comment.

Anyone could code the thing up in a couple hours. Scaling is just how well your database and server could handle the load
>>
>>74612996
return a > b ? a : b;

Nah m8 I'm from western Canada. We got more in common then you think

Our eastern cities are full of leftist fags and because of our corrupt political system only their votes actually matter but at least the west could rise up and seperate in 5 years and they'd be too much weak peacenik faggots to raise a weapon against us and seperatism here has long been discussed.
