Why do people oppose common sense gun laws?

>inb4 muh second ammendment

that was written in the fucking 1700s on horseback with fucking featherpens. they were talking about muskets and a well regulated militia. obviously they didnt foresee 2016 having automatic and nuclear weapons. where do you draw the line in the whole bearing arms thing? should you be allowed to carry grenades? should people be allowed to have nukes?

This is also why I think that freedoms should only apply to landowning christian white men.

Everyone else should be a slave or a wife.

That's what they meant in the 1700s anyway.

So by your logic, the First Amendment should not apply to radio, television, or the Internet because the Founding Fathers did not foresee those either.

If its different, please tell me how, without resorting to "guns kill people" Protip: You can't
>>
>>74508850

News flash... you CAN carry a grenade. You can also own a fully functioning tank complete with all ammo (the only regulated thing not available would be its guidance system)

I should be able to own anything the government can own. Why you ask? Because a well regulated militia wasnt meant to keep the indians and British in check. It was meant to keep the government in check.

Do not forget that Jefferson said that any country who does not have a regular uprising and revolution will slowly rot under its own weight. You were MEANT to take up arms against an oppressive government that does not represent you and your interests. Its your duty as an American citizen

explosives are not "Arms" they are "ordinance" even though the Founding Fathers were supportive of citizens having their own warships. explosives are indiscriminate and unpredictable

The Puckle Gun was in production as early as 1718. Repeating arms had been around since the mid 1500's. Its not that machine guns didnt exist, but more to the point, why buy a Puckle Gun when for the same price a 24LB cannon can kill 3 times the people... AND I can buy 2 of them.

We are talking about people who were jerking off to the Kentucky Long Rifle because they could now accurately target officers. If you handed Washington an M4 or AK101 he would nut in his britches and instantly declare every citizen should have 3

For every piece of info you can come up with that shows gun control works, I can show you 2 that says extremely high gun ownership rates means extremely low rates of homicide and personal crimes.

However Jefferson also has another quote

Those who give up freedom for security deserve neither.

>that was written in the fucking 1700s
Being old means it no longer applies?

>on horseback with fucking featherpens. they were talking about muskets and a well regulated militia. obviously they didnt foresee 2016 having automatic and nuclear weapons.
Then they would have said that in the document. But they didn't. They specifically left it open to interpretation. Only a fool would believe weapon technology wouldn't advance, and a bigger fool would believe that just because it's not advanced, it's no longer useful. Muskets--and bows and arrow--are still lethal weapons

>where do you draw the line in the whole bearing arms thing?
That is up to the Supreme Court, which has consistently broadened the meaning over time. An individual right to bear arms was only affirmed by the Court in 2008? And that only in 2010 they ruled that the second amendment applies to State governments as well, not just the Federal government?

>should you be allowed to carry grenades? should people be allowed to have nukes?
"In Caetano v. Massachusetts (2016), the Supreme Court reiterated its earlier rulings that "the Second Amendment extends, prima facie, to all instruments that constitute bearable arms, even those that were not in existence at the time of the founding" and that its protection is not limited to "only those weapons useful in warfare".[15]"

>Why do people oppose common sense gun laws?

Nobody does, that is a meme. The problem is all the common sense regs were already on the books when the school shooting epidemic started. Laws can't change human nature or turn the clock back on existing technology. Most proposed regulations would be extreme measures against the rights of citizens that not only stigmatize the mentally ill from pursuing treatment, but would not have stopped any of the shootings in question. It is the consummate example of "feel-good" legislation.

Girandoni Air Rifle, pic related, was made prior to the constitution, and used by the Austrian army.Lewis and Clark used it on their expedition.

It can fire 30 bullets in rapid succession, there's no smoke, and no powder.

Most guns these days, owned by civilians (Handguns/hunting rifles/shotguns) hold 30 or less bullets.

They knew what guns were like and where they were going.

Privately owned warships were not uncommon and that was the most powerful weapon of war of the era
There was also multi shot muskets capable of shooting 15+ rounds without reload and some of the founders were huge fans of this technology.

If you went back and took an AR -15 and the ability to produce them in large numbers as well as the ammo for them (technology from the late 50s btw) they would yell "take our fucking money" and proceed to encourage that every American own one.

~paraphrasing the Militia Act of 1798 as revised by the Dick act of 1906 and periodic reviews every 10 years ever since.

that is just common sense.

but what YOU fags call "common sense gun laws" are draconian restrictions designed to slowly erode the 2nd amendment's protections of our natural and inalienable rights to self defense

the end game is the total confiscation of all privately held firearms, leaving only those who receive special dispensation from the govt capable of defending themselves against criminals, and yes, the over-reaching federal government.

confiscation is the stated goal, and if you try to deny it, or No True Scotsman it, youre just a liar.

thats why ill never register my guns.
the govt will never know how many or what types of guns i have, or where they are kept.

i make my own ammunition so you cant stop me from having ammo either.

this is america, not some shitty eurotrash shithole or some banana republic, we wont give up our arms, we wont give up our rights and you can suck a dick.

thats why your "common sense gun laws" are rejected.

Actually automatic weapons were written about extensively during the period. Let's not forget the advent of the pickle gun, which was a crank machine gun that anyone could have ordered before the constitution was even written. The very notion that you are willing to sacrifice your freedoms in exchange for a false sense of security. And to even have the balls, to impose your self-righteousness over your fellow man without considering his inalienable rights; makes me ashamed to call you my countryman. The fact that I have to live on the same soil as freedom hating bastards like you, literally makes me sick to my stomach.

A friendly reminder to everyone in this thread. The left does not oppose guns. They might have some useful idiots whom they convince that guns are scary, but the goal of the left is to remove all means of effective self defense. I'm not talking about defense against a tyrannical state or armed uprisings — that is mostly fantasy. I'm talking about defense from every day criminals. If someone breaks into your house intending to do you harm, the left wants you to have no recourse.

The NFA process isn't thousands of dollars it is 200$

The government regulates explosives. Nuclear weapons and missiles, for example, are not banned; government permission to manufacture, purchase, or own is required.

weapon vs cost

Abrams tank = $2.39 million

F-22 Raptor = $339 million

Tomahawk cruise missile = $1.41 million

Assuming you as a citizen can raise the money to buy these weapons, you should be able too.

As a government, I can attest to this: I am infalible.
>>
It's simple.

No man needs an automatic firearm to defend himself. Nor does he need a grenade, or a tank, or a nuclear weapon.

Not because people cannot be trusted to employ those weapons for self-defense, but because they are all imprecise at best and disastrous in terms of collateral damage at worst.

In any situation where you would require the firepower of a full automatic rifle, a grenade, a tank, or a nuclear weapon, you have clearly stepped in some deep-ass shit above and beyond what any citizen should be facing, even in a nightmare scenario, like having twelve gangbangers with guns at your doorstep.

Remember - the White Death killed 500 Russian soldiers with nothing but a bolt-action rifle. Full automatic weaponry is rarely worth the trouble compared to getting singular, accurate killshots. Even with a full automatic fire capable weapon like an assault rifle, you do not fire on automatic when you mean to kill someone: it's short, controlled bursts, or singular aimed shots.

Hone your skill with your firearm, and you will be able to defend yourself against any threat that is not the goddamn military knocking on your door.

And if it's the goddamn military - you'd be fucked even if you did have an assault rifle, a belt of grenades, a fully operational and loaded M1A1 Abrams (and a trained crew to operate it for you), and a nuke hidden in your basement.

Frankly, any sort of uprising against the American government military is no longer a feasible possibility. It stopped being one right around World War I. Numbers mean nothing without the training, infrastructure, and equipment that a modern military fighting force possesses.

>Vietnamese

Guerilla tactics and a disinterested US. Their success was not through numbers, but asymmetrical warfare.

>Mujahideen

Guerilla tactics and a disinterested Russia. Their success was not through numbers, but asymmetrical warfare.

>Korea

Logistical nightmare for the US compared to China, who were literally on Korea's doorstep. Without modern day logistics for the US, that war was never going to result in anything other than stalemate.

>Russians in WWII

German tactical and logistical blunders abounds led to an eventual breakdown of the German offensive despite very strong gains initially. Even then, Russia paid the price in blood for every German bullet spent in Stalingrad. That casualty list is both absurd and disgusting, and to imply that Russia won that battle as much as Germany lost it is silly.

More people die from falling by accident than by any of the weapons you described. Use common sense, there is no reason to ban assault weapons when they aren't even used in the majority of gun violence.

>the mixture is an explosive once mixed, and cannot be transported in that form without following strict regulations including insurance, packaging, and signage on the vehicle. Various regulations also govern the storage of unmixed Tannerite.
If you say so, bro. I'm going to say you are wrong as it is contradict by the citation.

It was written by the most gangster mother fuckers that ever lived. They told one of the worlds most powerful governments to fuck off, shot them, and gave us true freedom for a limited time. I'm sure all of their graves are wallowed out from how fast they've been rolling over in their graves. You might even be able to harness the power and create free electricity for the entire country.

>Defend yourself just fine

Its not up to you how i defend myself, what i use, or what i need.

And if you honestly think that the government fighting the populace would look like conventional warfare, youd be dead fucking wrong. It would be geurilla warfare times a thousand in a country with more guns than people, no tank or jet fighter or fucking satelltie is gonna bust down my door at 3am and arrest me for dissent, only a human.

Occupation has never worked out for the invading country, and the united states would have to invade itself, and that wouldnt end well.

What do you fucking think the militias or civilians who take up arms are going to do? ASYMMETRICAL WARFARE! Do you really think people who know they're outgunned are going to dig fucking trenches WWI style? Or better yet march in tight formations shoulder to shoulder to the beat of a fife and drum?

First off I'm tired of seeing idiots from California making the rest of us Californians look bad. I'm from California myself and I believe in having a gun. My most hated argument is "well you don't need that big of a gun or that type of gun to go hunting". Its not for hunting its for when our government is doing the shit its doing and taking away our rights and our ways of fighting back while making false flags to get people scared of guns. If you hadn't noticed guns aren't the only things that kill. The human body is a weak fragile thing that can die from pretty much anything. If I went to an elementary school right now and just started stabbing kids with a pencil you think they're going to make pencil laws? No because you can't defend yourself against a government with pencils. The government wants you to be completely in their mercy and be defenseless. Just because somebody was mentally ill and shot people doesn't mean they couldn't have easily used something else as a weapon. The government is eventually going to take every right you have and the ones that were for gun laws I wont feel sorry for when uncle sam is ass raping them while telling them to make him more money.

This boi right here has got it. Also large parts of America except for Texas have a very fragile power line system. A well placed shot in a few transformers can knock out large areas of the power grid, cause those who didn't rise up to go into panic and probably riot if the powers not on in a few days or a week. This will cause not a 2 front war, but a three front war for the government. They'd have men fighting rebels/militias, rouge military units that have sided with the rebels, and send troops to quell rioters.
>>
>>74508850
I think it's two things.
If humans cannot be trusted with certain things in life, not just weapons, what makes someone think that the governing body, made up of those same morons, who often just barely scrapes through an election, knows best?
Also, "If humans are inherently good, no law is necessary. If humans are inherently evil, no law could suffice."
Taking weapons from people who would otherwise not use them irresponsibly will never solve the issues.

Yes, Canadian gun laws are perfect

>common sense gun laws
What's particularly ironic is you use the words of Thomas fucking Paine to push your gun control agenda.

Common sense is not overturning the 2nd amendment because misguided leftists are under the false notion that more gun control reduces crime. It literally does the opposite. Highest gun murder pet capita country in the world? Honduras. Highest city in the country? Detroit. Both ran by leftist governments and have very strict gun control laws.

>time changes evil people's desire for power and their greed
you still have a lot to learn. This is why evolution is nonsense, you get it in your head that because a certain amount of time has past that history can be ignored, but history is filled with examples of tyrannical governments stripping the populace of their weapons to control them. If you want tyranny so bad, then continue believing what you believe, I suppose only when you most sacred of privileges are stripped away that you will realize the importance of the 2nd ammendment

when a person is trying to rape/rob/murder you what defense shall you use against that person that is nonviolent? Nothing, it is impossible. Violence must be met with violence. Go back to california you faggot, no one gives a fuck about your shitty opinions
