I'm turning 30 this year, have a kid and a mortgage, and I'm no longer in school. I remember when N64 came out, dial up was all there was, payphones were important, beepers were the cell phones and kids played outside with their friends.
My sister was born in 1997. She's turning 18 years old and graduating high school. She's had a smart phone and fast speed internet since she was 6. She has never played outside as a child and she cries when her clothes weren't designer. She's been fired from a boutique for stealing, subway, a smoothie shop and has yet to find another job.
It really irks me we are considered the same generation even though the differences in the world in which we grew up were enormous.

'87 here. I think the cutoff criteria for 90's kid status is whether you had your first pube before Jan 1 2001. Sure kids have memories but they aren't able to process those memories or have any sort of internal motivation. I think puberty and the onset of adolescence during the 90's is key.
I can remember life before cell phones. I remember watching wrestling and there was a skit where a wrestler talked on a cell phone with another guy and the announcers said something like, "Heck, everyone's got a cell phone now." I can remember being disconnected from other people (without realizing it at the time) and that is probably the biggest change from the modern era.
