I think it's just a consequence of all those things being in the same space.
Like, if you have a 3D space and you embed points inside that space eventually you're going to start filling it up. So if you have division (a star splitting apart, cells splitting apart) in both cases you're going to see two "clumps" of matter coming out of a central clump.
