We knew the government was spying on people. We fucking knew it.

Snowden released information that we already knew, and then he sold sensitive information to China. This guy is a full blown traitor who tricked idiots into thinking he's some kind of a saint because he released information we already know. The real motivation for what he did was money.
This is like some releasing TOP SECRET information that police men shoot people unprovoked and then the guy who leaks this TOP SECRET EPIK information sells government information to Russia.

He's CIA. What's not to loathe?

He's CIA playing inter-agency warfare against the NSA. So we get the CIA narrative once again in place of any semblance of truth, and the mass media lap it up like he's a hero for truth. Just look at who he gave the disks to: the fucking Guardian. The last people you'd dripfeed important information to if you wanted it spread objectively.

Why didn't he data dump it all online? I'd have believed his bullshit then a whole lot better. That;s what a real whistle blower "shocked and appauled" at the evil NSA would have done. But no, he's CIA, the whole thing is a controlled put-on designed to syphon budget money away from their only real competitor.

Actually what's happening is that Edward Snowden is an idiot who thinks he's a libertarian superhero but actually has no clue what the fuck he's doing.

you guys are adorable. you will find any angle, no matter what it is that makes you feel good about ignoring something and blaming the CIA for it all at the same time.

He was sent there by the government. The story that he was actually going to Mexico or whatever is complete bullshit to make it look like government stopped him and he just conveniently ended up in Russia where he's welcomed with open arms.

They're a means to an end. Nothing more. Sometimes, you have to deceive someone before you stab them in the back.

have to throw one out
>disinfo shill

The government has a ton of incredibly gifted individuals that work in federally funded think tanks to solve incredibly complex problems and figure out the perfect direction for political maneuvers.

In my eyes it seems almost statistically impossible that a blunder like this wasn't a set up especially in how minor it really was yet how much it changed society.

These issues are always difficult to digest.
>>He was a traitor of the state. -Gave terrorists information about our programs, such as the NSA monitoring techniques, that terrorists learned from and now avoid. 1) This is hard, it's very easy for the government to say it has x devastating effect on our ability to monitor terrorists. They always say this, yet they refuse to offer any proof of how that's true. Were they brand new techniques that we should assume terrorists were not aware of and would have taken a while to figure out? What proof is needed by the government to prove this had a massive effect on our ability to monitor.
>>Will a whistleblower ever get treated with respect, if they come forward about such a leak, but stay for trails and hearings? Seems foolish to me, based on our history of poor reactions to whistle blowers in the past. Do we need to revisit the whistle blower laws?

It helps their view of the US government. It fits into their narrative. Just a press/propaganda opportunity by Putin/RT.

No, you're okay mexico. "but prefer" is correct. The subject is still "I" because you combined the clauses so you don't need to restate it.

ad hominem. Just because I'm paid to post online doesn't mean I'm wrong

The government has a ton of incredibly gifted individuals that work in federally funded think tanks to solve incredibly complex problems and figure out the perfect direction for political maneuvers.
Why exactly does this not mean that a guy can't sneak out info on spy programs and give them to the media?

And what's more likely, that the above happened, or that a bunch of old guys who wanted cushy jobs after leaving government decided it was best to dump a bunch of politically inflammatory intelligence info in the hopes that they get the response they are looking for, whatever it is.

>In my eyes it seems almost statistically impossible

Oh please post your statistical calculations...... I didn't know you had those id love to see them

Because he is part of the plan.

>tell sheeps murica is spying y'all phones
>:O t: sheep
>nothing happens
>make a movie about it aka if some people already forgot who this guy is, movie is great reminder "OH BTW WE SPY ON YOU AND YOU CAN DO NOTHING ABOUT IT" .
>Create fear to control masses

It's way too obvious. If they want him dead or captured they wouldn't make a movie that does not blackmail him or does not show NSA in a bad light.

First off... By definition he's a traitor
But what he did was a necessary kind of evil.
Had he turned himself in he could have been know as the hero we don't deserve. Every news agency would have been lining up to do interviews with him and he would have gotten his story out and could have started a real backlash and rise against the government. He would have been a martyr.

But instead he went down as the traitor who tucked his tail and ran. It doesn't help that he sought asylum in Russia who is demonized in the US as our ultimate enemies.

What trump said has nothing to do with /pol/'s views on Snowden.

So you admit you're a disinfo shill. Good, at least all cards are on the table now.

Listen bud, I can tell you're a smart guy but I don't think you're approaching my assertion with an open mind. I don't expect you to believe me; I don't expect you to not question me, but to be outright dismissive isn't constructive.

I'm not trying to glorify the government here, I'm not trying to say what's going on isn't a violation of our freedoms.

The point in trying to make is that there is much more to this than meets the eye.

Taking any news at face value is foolish. Taking one as rattling and peculiar as this is even more so.

That's why I'm taking the route which requires a little faith. It's based in solid logic in regards to why it would be done (ie Arab spring) but it certainly doesn't fit the conventional news story mould and stands to be proven rather than being the default which does put me in a precarious position in debates. In fact it stands as nearly impossible to prove, thus what I posted was more food for thought than a solid argument.

I'm inclined to believe the government is more competent than we realize to assume and you're inclined to believe the opposite, so I think naturally we will gravitate toward different opinions on this.

Anyways you're clearly invested in this so it's unlikely that you're convinced of anything I put out there. That's fine. You're fighting a good fight regardless.

>He would have been a martyr.
So you prefer then he literally sacrifice himself for some perverted sense of poetic justice?
that's retard.
