Was /pol/ the smart kid in class?

I was straight A student, don't know about the rest of you.
>>
Straight A student though I only gave shit during my last year
>>
>>74291787

Above-average all-round, not top of the class material, but definitely in the top 20%.

this was at a top tier high school full of nerdy asians too btw
>>

I was the smart kid in class that refused to do anything. Stoners hated me because I wasn't a druggy, teachers hated me because I was a stubborn ass, and A students hated me because I was smarted than them.

at elementary school i was pretty good, only ones and twos (in Austia we have 5 different grades - 1 best, 5 worst), during my nine years of high school i was quite bad, i had to repeat one class and learn during sommer, because I had to repeat tests to be able to advance, because i was lazy as fuck, however since i am at university i am very good and have a grade point average of about 1.7
>>
>>74291787
yes

then I stopped caring about academic studies, my grades fell, dropped out and I'm looking to get into practical work

I'd rather hammer pieces of steel than look at papers all day
>>
skipped a lot of school, almost dropped out, loads of Fs for not showing up. got straight As when I did though, so it balanced out

who /internetaddiction/ here?
>>
>>74291787
I was pretty average, maybe just slightly above average.

Schools in Sweden are a joke when it comes to discipline though, everyone is being loud, obnoxious and poke around on their phones. It's a tragedy.
>>
No. Dropped out at 16.

Ended up obtaining my GED at 16. Worked for awhile. Went to a community college and earned my associated and eventually earned my Bachelors. 32 now and working as a Sr Systems Analyst and making great money in a cozy job.

Although I was always considered smart. I was just a really poor student and a very unmotivated person in general, which is why my career path ended up netting me my own office where I shit post stuff like this 7 hours a day.
>>
>>74291787
Slacker with a bunch of potential, well that's what the teachers say.
I just gave effort in my final year and now I'm in college, slacking off again. Huzzah.
>>
Pretty much one of the smartest if not the smartest in my school. I remember getting the highest in the school in maths exams 4 exams in a row. I used to be pissed when I got an A instead of an A* in sciences
>>
>>74291787
In high school, I was a "too cool for school" troublemaker that got into a lot of fights. During university, I was the know-it-all asshole that constantly debated with the professor.

Now that I am 30, I cringe when I think about how I used to act.
>>
I was an average student but passed with 9s and 10s because i basically made every school campaign/announcement/large project and sweet-talked all me teachers.
>>

>>
I did well in school, when I bothered studying (and usually even when I didn't), however, I still feel like an idiot with poor comprehension and shallow understanding. Being able to remember math formulas and historical dates doesn't mean you're smart.
>>
>>74291787
didnt do my homework at all ever or listen to the teacher talk. I was still able to pass most classes. i did homework for math though every now and then because i didnt want to fail math.

I honestly can not remember most of the bullshit that was taught in high school. Some teachers hated me too because i didnt bother doing their extra work even though i was polite and kept quiet most of the time. i remember one time i got like 55% on an assignment and when i compared it to my nerdy friend who got 100% our answers were the basically the same thing in different writing when i pointed it out to the teacher he just ignored me.

Doing well in high school is great if you are going for a scholarship or doing pre requisites for university otherwise why bother.

A's&B's until middle school, then I quit giving a shit because school doesn't teach anything useful or interesting, and I always had an inverse reaction to being told how things are, given how easy it is to see with my own eyes.

Now that I'm a grown adult it's really laughable to me how completely obsolete it is for people to pay money to go to a building for knowledge you can get for free with a computer at home.
>>
I wasn't the smart kid.

I was the straight-A, 2310-SAT, going-to-a-top-50-school-on-a-full-tuition-scholarship kid. And that kid is now 24, trying to go back to college and finish his last two semesters because he technically flunked out due to crippling depression and (he would later discover) an executive functioning disorder.

Never stopped being smart, though. Just had no drive or motivation to do anything.

I didn't give a shit. Was a straight-A student for one year, but otherwise I usually skipped doing my work. By my junior year of high school I was skipping school entirely and getting Fs.

But I was still considered a pretty smart kid because the work I did do was high quality.
>>
I was not the smartest, but I think I did well: had 3.9 GPA (which should be lower since all of my A's were low ones), 29 on ACT, and had 2 B's and the rest A's. Definitely top 20% though.
>>
>>74291787
I did very badly in school but all the kids came to me when they needed help. Teachers even asked me to tutor some kids, which I did.
Got a 30 on my SAT without even passing algebra (some of the stuff on the SAT is geometry, trig and calculus which I never learned).
I just really disliked being at school and was far more interested in chasing tail than doing busiwork assignments.

Now I own a successful business.
>>

>>
>>74291787
I had the best spelling and maths test results in the School. I was expelled due to behaviour problems.
Was allowed to sit my maths, english and science exams and nothing else. Got good exam scores but minimum coursework scores so all C's.
>>
>>74292678
This except I didn't feel as if I was smart, everyone else was just ridiculously stupid which made me look like a genius by comparison.
>>
I was above average in high school -mostly B's-

I said fuck it in college though
>>
>>74291787
I was really smart as a kid, but my teachers always slapped me down for talking too much and arguing with the other kids. Eventually I hated school so much that I'd stay up all night, because I was terrified of going to sleep and waking up to go to school.

It sounds retarded, but kids are retarded. I wish I'd done more in school, but at the time it was just a constant nightmare of kids I didn't like and teachers who didn't like me.

When I went to college my faggot dormmates played DOTA literally all night and I got like four hours of sleep a day, my complaints got me moved to another dorm which cost more money and the faggots there did the exact same thing. I wish I had just stayed home and gotten a job. What a huge waste of time.

Meh, my school had a ridiculous grading scale (98% for an A, 95% for A-) but I still managed to get A's an B's, with a C+ or so. I got a nice ACT score, so I was pretty set. I was kind of just a bum, really. I could have gotten much better grades if I worked harder, but I don't regret what I did, because it didn't really hinder me in life. Intelligence is irrelevant in school or even society at large, you can keep stroking this delusion of yours to make you feel better however.

Praising your intelligence is the last refuge a man with no talent or skill inevitably ends up defending and overblowing.

It is though, intelligence is irrelevant.

It has nothing to do with charisma, with how attractive you look, with your socializing skills or even your motivation or desire to push yourself up the ladder and with how much money your parents have that creates a necessary foundation for you to start out in....etc

Saying "muh intelligence!" is irrelevant and will always be irrelevant dipshit.
Any retard that has DRIVE, charisma, social skills and wealth can out surpass any intelligent person who lacks in all other areas and surpassing them doesn't make you "intelligent".

if that were true, there would only be a very weak correlation between IQ (which is related to raw physiological nervous system factors like G, can be measured by reaction time and neuron activity) and income. people who had the most charisma, social aptitude, or wealth would be overrepresented relative to population in the top decile of income earners.

unfortunately, that is not the case.
>>
>>74296465

It's hard to summarize but basically the reason I did so well leading up to college is because I had the tools to put in almost no effort but still succeed in the primary school education system. I could process information very quickly, understand concepts easily, and had a lot of early reading so I was probably ahead of a lot of classmates in a lot of ways.

But I just didn't know how to do longer-term work. Paper writing was a mighty struggle and there was a research paper in my junior year of HS that I almost didn't do because I just had no idea how to approach it. Executive functioning explains that because you have poor planning and organizational skills, which in my case wasnt an issue until college because I could coast by in high school. Been in therapy for a couple years as well as on stimulants and have slowly learned a lot of things I should've learned earlier but didn't because I didn't need them.
>>
Consistently received Straight A's throughout elementary and middle school (not like it fucking matters at all though lmao)

Stayed at that level of success throughout Freshman year; would've easily been Top 2% if I maintained that effort

Come sophomore year I began browsing 4chan more and it essentially became a surrogate social group; like all relationships gone too far, it dragged me down, and my A average went down to a B

By Junior year, there was dissonance between the me who still gave a fuck and the me who couldn't care less. I guess the former won the battle because I still managed a B average I think

And Senior year I gave no fucks, end of story there. Went from at least Top 20% to Top 40% with that severe dip in effort. Oh well though. I don't act like it's anyone's fault but my own.

Is he smart? I wouldn't disagree I bet he is extremely intelligent but after all he is hugely successful from the fact he had the resources to amass such wealth in the first place.

Yes, yes I bet all those niggers have nothing but excuses too when they attend broken criminal ridden schools with outdated textbooks and teachers who don't care and do the minimum.
With drug ridden and high crime rate neighborhoods, with their parents lacking funds to barely survive as is.

Once again, how does one who lacks foundation able to compete with one who does, it is impossible.

Your rise equates not on intelligence but on how suitable your environment was that enabled you to.

No. I hated doing homework so I bombed a lot of classes. Had a bad video game habit. Started smoking weed in high school which made me give less shits.

I've had enough teachers gush over me to be certain that I'm not a retard, though. I've had dozens of the serious, sit-down, "you're selling yourself short, get your fucking shit together" lectures. I always did really well with speeches, papers and presentations. I don't think I had ever gotten less than a B on one of those. I always went above and beyond for speeches especially because I hate listening to boring speeches. I would try to add as much off-the-cuff as I could.

If I could go back and do it all over again, I would. There's no doubt in my mind I could get all A's with some effort. I started working manual labor right after high school and that made me realize how much I appreciate and enjoy education. Hurts typing this because I know I fucked myself over.

At least I got a 30 on the ACT.

I was an idiot stoner in high school, straight C/D average, SOMEHOW got a presidential scholarship to the college I currently attend. Decided to stop old habits b/c this is obviously opportunity granted by a higher power.

Yeah sorry, your pity bullshit "It's impossible to compete!" story means nothing to me. My entire family are immigrants from a war torn country who came here with nothing, and we studied and worked out assess off. We're all successful now save my retarded little brother. Don't give me any of this shit about it being impossible to compete with someone who's established because you're too stupid and too lazy to actually make something of yourself.

You're a fucking waste of space.

>immigrant
>somehow equates to being poor or uneducated
You DO realize that the wealthiest and brightest tend to be the ones even able to immigrant, the poorest and the ones lacking any foundation are the ones who ILLEGALLY immigrate due to the fact they have no chance to meet the requirements of a legal process.

You had a foundation and succeeded? Congrats, look at your typical ghetto's not many are as lucky as you.
>>
>>74304533
Are you fucking retarded or just pretending?
>My entire family are immigrants from a war torn country who came here with nothing
Read that line again, and then tell me how some lazy minority whose family has been in America for years was in a worse position than me. Hell, I've got friends who are immigrants from rough places in Africa who took all of one generation to become successful here. Don't make excuse for the lazy idiots who live here and don't make an effort to do anything other than steal and be lazy.

Was the smart kid in elementary school, even in my challenge class, and I maintained that reputation though my actual grades slipped from middle school on because I went edgy.

I finished my junior year of a public university engineering program at 3.2, I have no idea if that's OK or utterly terrible.

Exceptions don't break the rule young one.

Now if only those niggers could be given a pass to break free from their war torn neighborhoods just as easily as your family was.

Except that it's not a few exceptions, it's my entire family and extended family, friends from India, and friends from Africa. The only "rule" you're making is an excuse for lazy idiots. You've already shown that you couldn't read my post, and your claim that it was "impossible" to succeed without an established advantage is patently false.

>be given a pass
Oh boy, I was going to get mad, then I realized that you're 100% trolling. Good show.

I had my sophomore slip junior year myself, but in my defense two of my three classes (had a weird schedule because I went edgelord earlier) were taught by one teacher who is the kind of woman with a perpetual migraine.

I straightened my ass out in 12th grade, but still fell 1 point short of an A in AP Calc.

Arguing with you is killing my braincells.

Child, your parents had a foundation in this "warn torn country" and migrated yes LEGALLY MIGRATED into the USA with the foundation you had meaning money, skills you developed and whatever else that helped you further solidify it over here.

You had a foundation, moving means jack shit.

This is nothing with niggers who have NOTHING no foundation and are STILL in that "Warn torn" environment you and your family desperately escaped out of, dipshit.
>>
>>74303689
Life ain't over yet. You can still better yourself just for the heck of it. I am a vet student and in my free time I study economics, history and foreign languages. I don't know why people see education as troublesome. If you enjoy it, just do it, make your dreams come true.

>Black people who have lived in America, the land of welfare, have absolutely nothing
>But immigrants from war torn countries who come here with not a penny to their name and then work have foundation
Congratulations, you're actually the stupidest poster on /pol/. If you sincerely believe a word of what you typed here today, I honest to God hope you get hit by a car before you ever reproduce and pass on your defective genes, "child".
>>
>>74291787
I was a smart kid in class. Not the smartest, but like top 3 every class of every year.
>>
>>74306119
You want to see how REAL "immigrants" with not a penny to their name and no skills and no foundation behave?

Look at the syrian refugees raping everyone committing mass crimes, those are REAL refugees from warn torn countries who have never developed a single skill and have no money.

Look at the illegal mexicans who turn into drug gangs because that is all they can do.

THAT is what no skill and no money creates, you had one or the other maybe even both, cry me a fucking river about your "warn torn" country you immigrated from while the poorest of them all lacked the requirements to immigrate and are STILL in that warn torn country you left doing no better than the niggers here.
>>
>>74306630
You're such a fucking idiot that it physically hurts me. I am Syrian. 100%. My first language was Arabic. I still have family over there. Those "real refugees" you're referring to are muslim animals, and most of them aren't even Syrian. They created their environment (that's why most of us left) despite not having any money, because the Christians have been getting slaughtered for ages (don't let the media tell you that it's only recently gotten bad) and we came here to America, with nothing, and then built something. Don't pretend for a second that we had money and skills, because we didn't. Don't you fucking dare tell me where me and my family came from and what we had. We were in the same boat as those people, but we're sure as hell not anymore. Circumstance doesn't chain you down and make it impossible to move up like you're pretending it does, some people are just stupid, like you and them, and like to make excuses as to why you'll never succeed at anything other than complaining, killing and stealing.

I'll ask you once more, please kill yourself.

I wasn't straight A but I tested higher then anyone.

I had teachers and test examiners look at me with absolute disbelief and on multiple occasions they talked to me personally and would comment on how unusual it was.

I never studied for anything. I did do school work but I really didn't care back then because of mental health issues. Now I got them fixed and realize it doesn't matter that much. Thinking of going back to school and becoming a robotic engineer.

I had straight A's through high school. I finished up college with 1 B because the professor was a stupid gook on tenure.

I was also a division 1 athlete in college. Also, the only one of all my friends who was conservative. It threw a lot of people for a loop when they found that one out

>grade school: One of the smartest kids in the class, if not THE smartest, never got below an A, and I scored in the 99th percentile on national testing
>high school freshman to junior year: I went through a lot of shit and kind of coasted, not really caring about school, though I still scored a 98% on the national latin exam
>high school senior year: honor roll, easily crushed some of the most outwardly intelligent students in AP Statistics regularly, making one of them dub me the Dark Horse
>College first couple years: Found myself lost in a major I hated but wanted to stick out because I had planned to do it for most of my life (Pharmacy, which would have taken me 6 years anyway)
>Got very sick and depressed in the middle of a semester in my third year, missing an exam entirely because of it, and then crashing and burning, scrapping the entire semester and taking off a full year
>Went back to the same university, found a new major, buckled down, and made dean's list over and over again
>Actually helped struggling students pass the classes I specialized in

It was a rollercoaster. I've accepted that even though I'm naturally very intelligent, I find it really hard to be motivated sometimes. When I do though, I almost always excel.

I used to have this opinion of myself. Everyone always came to me for questions, I effortlessly made As, did people's homework for fun, that sort of thing. Then I entered a pretty elite private school and realized I'm not hot shit, and just a small fish in an enormous pond of smart, talented individuals.
