Drunk driving kills more people than are murdered (not suicided) with guns every year. Kills more innocent (non driving) children as well.
The difference is that the US already tried the whole "banning alcohol" thing, and it failed miserably enough that even democrats won't fall for it again. So now it's on to guns and smokes.
