Yeah, Samurai jack didnt get a proper ending. But they hinted multiple times throughout the series that Jack never succeeds in going back in time, and ends up killing Aku in the future where he stays and becomes a mighty king.
But I guess it makes sense though. After all the good he'd done, and people he's saved, he probably didnt want to undo everything he did in the future.
They are doing that new Samurai jack series though, so mabye they will change that? It all depends on if Genndy Tartakovsky wants to stay with the original story he had planned in the old series.
