Just depends what you want. The valley is beautiful and pretty country. Roanoke area is alright. If you want the place with the most jobs and "happening" then go Nova. Loudoun is a really nice growing area, on fringe of country so you don't feel too urban. Arlington if you want to live around young people in urban environment. Fairfax is in between.
Charlottesville generally is pretty meh.
Richmond is up and coming, mix of old South and modern hipster haven, but also a lot of blacks.
Avoid Norfolk and Virginia Beach.
