In many cases, clothing or other items are simply not worth the money, and people are paying for a name or a look or an endorsement. There are, however, occasions on which spending extra money now so you can save some down the road, making it a worthwhile investment.
As to the price if jeans in particular, I would not pay more than $25 for a pair of jeans I'd wear around the house or whatever. However, I would gladly pay more for a pair of high quality work jeans.
