Everyone can be on a high standard of living. We will be able to invent technology in the future that will make us pollute the earth less, and clean the earth more, and support more people, living happily without neesecarily all needing to own so much space of land or objects to be happy. A great happy populated world is possible IF the people living on it were are kind, loving, intelligent people.
The reality is the world is full of people with mental issues, including the elitie (especially the elite) who are tremendously greedy and have self esteem issues where they NEED to have people suffer and live worse then them to be psychologically content.
People are suffering in the world because to some degree people WANT others to suffer. And NEED it to satiate their emotional void.

Only because we have voluntarily deindustrialized to enable globalization. We could trade for the resources directly if needed (would be much, much less expensive that way) and reduce our own consumption by reducing waste. The idea that we NEED the third world to maintain our standards of living doesn't take into consideration that we could reindustrialize in a few years if needed (and it would be even more automated than ever this time...).
