It's hard to explain I think to most Americans and many outsiders. But America has this individualist mentality that's been taken to an extreme.
Modern libertarians are a good example of this. And I know they are a minority but most Americans feel similarly or to an exstent on many topics.
The right and left have been so divided in America it's insane. Then count the fact that America is so huge. Which was fine a long time ago when most Americans were the same race, religion, and political views weren't so varied and wide. But today it's a disaster.
And that's what it will take to get them working together again. But a huge disaster. Total American collapse or a world war

Walk around London now it's like 6/10 people are brown, plus 1/10 is a tourist or European student or worker.
Same is true for quite a few of the big cities and it's spreading to the towns and villages now too.

Prior to 1914 Canada had:
-No income tax, and whatever taxes existed were negligeable such sales taxes and import/export tariffs.
-Was crime-free.
-Exceptional personal freedom including gun laws (The NRA was actually inspired by it's Canadian counterpart, the Dominion Rifle Association)
-The prevailing mood was that the 20th Century would belong to Canada, and we would explode in scope and size.
-The country was solidly British, Imperialist and proud of it. Immigration was barred to near all except the Britsh Isles and sister Dominions. Everyone thought of themselves as British first and foremost. Our artifical "Canadian" identity would take another 60 years of government funded effots before anyone even took it seriously.

Nowadays, I see our country as a cautionary tale like Sweden. We elected Trudeau Sr. an avowed fan of the USSR and personal friend of Fidel Castro and there has been no recovering since. He flooded us with immigrants and created a behemoth Federal machine that ran us into the ground, playing off one province against the other, this ethnicity against that ethnicity.

The long of it:
The Great War brought about massive taxes to pay off the debts accrued to fight the Hun. To make matters worse, the Great Depression, brought about by America's innate corruption, almost caused a bolshevik funded revolution in the prairie provinces. Naturally, economic hardships plunged us even more into deficit.
This was doubly compounded by the 2nd World War which brought about even more debt and more government encroachment in all sectors of life. Here's a fun fact. We haven't even finished paying off the debt of the First World War.
The stage is set now for our Liberals, who have always been pro-American continentalists, to begin picking away at Canada's social pillars in the 60's and 70's. Get rid of the Union Jack, Bring in unfettered immigration, undermine traditional values and spend, spend, spend spend.
And as always, the never-ending squabble between the French and the English for supremacy...

We should have been fine. In 1870, the first census of our new dominion, we had less than 1% non-White population. An immigration policy severely restricting non White immigration kept pur country safe and prosperous until the 1960s. With the election of Pierre Trudeau our country changed forever. The freedoms we enjoyed under a small government quickly disappeared under a new sprawling federal government. Multiculturalism literally became the law of the land. The government made explicit that minorities were to be favoured by government institutions and that the private sector should follow suite. Mass unbridled immigration made our streets dangerous. Marriage was regulated by the government and birthrates declined from 3/woman to 1.6. we engineered a new cultural identity devoid of European heritage. We changed our flag, national anthem, and history, thus cutting ourselves off from our past.
Please world, don't become like us. We are dead in the water. It won't be much longer before this becomes apparent to most Canadians and then the rest of the world. I just hope when the fall comes there is a safe place for us to resettle.
