I do think they envy the wealth, success, accomplishments, and influence of the west. How could they not in the context of the greatness of cultures. What the fuck has the muslim world achieved or accomplished in the modern era. Very little. They have been dwarfed by the west. Even the division of their own countries were an after thought by western men.
