North Korea is amazing, as it completely flies in the face of the entire narrative of the West's view of the world since 1945. The more you think about it, the more amazing it is, because it disproves every pseudo-intellectual academic opinion on geo-politics.
What happened to Pol Pot's regime was completed expected and predictable. Under any mainstream geopolitical view, one would expect a state like Red Cambodia to either be invaded or collapse into civil war before long.
What happened in China or Vietnam, where Communist governments have embraced elements of Capitalism and opened up trade in order to grow, is completely explainable.
What happened in Singapore under Lee Kwan Yu is explainable. What happened to Apartheid South Africa and Rhodesia after they were economically and politically ostracised is explainable. What happened in the Balkans after Tito is explainable.
But North Korea? It's a giant fuck you to everyone who thinks they've completely worked out Earth. According to every academic theory, it shouldn't have existed in its current form for this long. It should have - with 100% guarantee after this long - either collapsed into civil war, or been forced to reform and open up a bit to the world.
