Gingrich has more than a few skeletons in his closet and scandals in his personal life. Like he apparently insulted Bill Clinton for sleeping around but then cheated on his wife while she was suffering with cancer. But as a politician he's almost unmatched, he was an excellent Speaker of the House and was one of the reasons (most conservatives argue) that the Clinton administration had an excellent economy and a balanced budget.
So he's very politically effective and I think he'd do excellent in a role with more authority than the VP (like Chief of Staff) but I can see him as an easy target for the Democrats and he wouldn't do anything but excite some of the "neverTrump" conservatives and maybe swing them.
