you can say whiskey as a catch all, but scotch whiskey, irish whiskey, and american whiskey end up being pretty distinct from one another in various ways. Jack may be popular and accessible, but if it's not good for you then don't bother. There's so many better whiskeys that will get you a better taste for it.
