I used to drive 23 miles each way to work in Chicagoland. LA is in a league all to itself. I once came into LA from the east at 3AM on I10, and it was still like rush hour in most American cities.

Southern California is mostly desert, the coastal plain that Houses Riverside, LA, San Diego, Irvine, Tijuana ETc. is a relatively small pocket of Land hemmed in by the Ocean and Mountain ranges.
this is why it has a great Climate, the best in north America and arguably one of the best in the world.
Unfortunately because of this millions of people flocked there from 1850-now.
Basically all of the useful land in SoCal is now built out.

Quads of truth, luckily they're opening a new rail line that goes from Santa Monica to Downtown in about an hour or so, way less time/stress than during peak traffic. It's being developed more to go to the airport area where the new stadium for the Rams will go in 2019. Though no matter how much they put into public transit, the roads will always be clogged, because the city is too fucking spread out for transit to be effective.
