People actually voted to become a state, but yeah, we're way too damn poor and backwards to become a state. And even so people here don't really adhere to typical American values. We're only Americans in name and citizenship, but that's about it. At the end of the day, it's a lose-lose situation for the US whether we become state or not. The best possible scenario for the US would be if we somehow end up independent which really isn't going to happen.
