Poor Remy doesn't understand why she was left in a shelter! When we took her out, she continually looked around for a car to come back for her. The only reason for leaving her at the shelter was, 'didn't want a dog anymore!' That is so very sad. She is a calm girl only 2 years old. Remy was very gentle taking treats & walked nicely on the lead. She didn't want to play with the toys but took the rawhide and released it when asked. She wasn't too hungry but she ate a few bites out of my hand.

I can appreciate that statistic. The vast majority of dog attacks period are family members. The problem is a lot of people do not interact and care for their pet properly in a post-agricultural society. A lot of dogs will have the intelligence of a small child when they mature, especially large working breeds. If you don't discipline your pet like you would your own child they are going to be instinctual and rebellious. Quantifiably, Golden Retrievers attack the most despite having lower population numbers than pit breeds, which are arguably the most populous breed in the US. The difference is pit bulls are larger and can do more damage, and are much harder to fend off than a retriever. Any attack by a pit will do more damage than most breeds, even if they're less frequent.
If the animal is treated as set dressing for your home, as a plaything, or an exterior creature to the nuclear family who's undisciplined antics are met with an amusement response, then you've got a shitty animal on your hands. It's as smart as a 2-4 year old kid, so you have to love it and raise it as one.
I won't lie and say there are no bad dogs. Some are fucked beyond repair, whether by being retarded in the same way humans can be or by being fucked with by a shitty abusive owner. The one factor people overlook in these cases are a lot of people aren't abusive owners.
