The biggest tragedy of european history was the split between France and Germany when the frankish kingdom got divided.
If it had remained unified 1000 years ago, the frankish kingdom would have not only ruled all of europe, but would rule the entire world now. The anglos wouldnt even have been on the map, geopolitically. They would be as relevant as the scandinavians are now.
If France and Germany would unite today they still could kick some serious ass, but it will never happen unless the entire current political class in France and Germany is exterminated, like Charlemagne did with the saxons.
