Erdogan has been trying for years to subjugate Parliament in an attempt to rewrite the Constitution to give himself more power. He recently disenfranchised a bunch of Kurdish MPs to try to create a majority. He's been throwing out corruption charges against his own people in an attempt to consolidate, particularly in the judiciary and police force. Now even the prime minister is thrown over for what will inevitably be a Erdogan yes-man.
He's probably doing this to give himself more room to maneuver in the coming crisis. But all it seems to do is destabilize government more than anything else. He's going to have to clamp down hard to keep things in order. Expect some really aggressive crackdowns by the party in the near future.
