First to land a robot on a asteroid.

First to land a robot on Mars.

Went to the moon SEVERAL times no one has still come close. To be fair I bet Russia could do it easy but there is nothing on the moon its just a stupid rock and we confirmed it.

The only two relevant things is honestly is first man in space which Russia and first man on moon USA.

First satellite is kind of small prize which is Russia.

Space station is joint project don't kid yourselves on this is some sort of pure Russian project.

There's nothing to defend.
USSR went into space and were showing off making amazing advancements in space exploration. Then America joined, they made their own advancements and they put people on the moon, which required innovation that USSR hadn't come up with yet.
Both were super powers making major advancements in science.

Be glad there are still some things people are proud to be American about. No doubt soon the narrative will be that space exploration was built on the backs of proud PoC and women and all those white guys in historical footage were just stealing the spotlight from the REAL heroes.

Then the narrative will be that space travel, even privately funded, is going to support white supremacy, and that it should be banned.

I bet most students now don't know anything about the Soviet Union except they were a big communist country way far away, and James Bond, and they were bad guys

Well for one thing, it's simply not true. America had more space firsts than the USSR in every stage of the space race, from beginning to end.

And for another, half of the Soviet achievements were SJW bullshit. You forget they were commies. Putting some lady into low earth orbit doesn't impress me nearly as much as the first spy satellite. Nor does putting a nigger up there (another great Soviet "milestone").

It's not about patriotism, it's about facts. The simple cold hard facts is that the United States achieved more than Russia through every phase of the space race. Period. It's not even up for debate. See for yourself:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_of_the_Space_Race

Russia could only be said to be "ahead" of us in any meaningful way for about 2 years in the 50s right at the beginning of the space race. After that they got blown the fuck away and never recovered, catastrophic crash landings into celestial bodies notwithstanding.

And not only that, but browse NASA's achievements on that wiki. GPS, spy satellites, weather satellites, communications satellites, all things that have a meaningful effect on our lives to this day. We started that. You're welcome, Slav.

Yeah, slinging shit against the wall as fast as you can will closely resemble sophistication when there are layers of propaganda and intelligence warfare between you and the truth.

Russian engineers were fucking crazy. They constantly tried cutting edge techniques at the expense of redundancy and reliability.

A lot of their GNS was more like clockwork than anything else and there were times NASA was convinced it was actually far more sophisticated computing capability.

Pioneer 10 weren't first leave solar system, try Voyager 1 for better results.

>Although other probes were launched first, Voyager 1 was able to achieve a higher speed and has overtaken all others. Voyager 1 overtook Voyager 2 a few months after launch, on 19 December 1977.[3] It overtook Pioneer 11 some time in the late 1980s, and then Pioneer 10—becoming the probe farthest from Earth—on February 17, 1998.[4]

>Voyager 2 is also moving faster than the probes launched before it, and thus overtook Pioneer 11 in 1997 and will overtake Pioneer 10 sometime in 2021.

>New Horizons will also likely pass the Pioneer probes, but will need many years to do so. It will not overtake Pioneer 11 until ~2082 and will not overtake Pioneer 10 until ~2130. Barring some unforeseen gravity assist it will never overtake the Voyagers.
