This is the problem with low-class, abusive parenting. They never get into the "real life lessons" teenage phase of punishments, so they will never be able to fit in in middle-to-upper class society.
For example, if you get in trouble with your boss you might get a suspension from work without pay. If you were raised as a civilized human being, you would think to yourself, "I fucked up, what a drag, I know how to deal with this problem." If you give your teenaged children even a slight chance to talk their way out of a punishment, it will help them be able to talk their way out of fuck-ups or bad deals later rather than giving up or chimping out.
An man brought up with Punch-Out dad might get suspended, feel entitled to immediately lash out in anger because that's what respectable men in his hometown do, and say something stupid like "Let's take this outside like real men," in a working environment and not feel embarrassed about it.
Punishment is not about being tough unless you're an egomaniac bastard father. It's to teach you how to deal with realistic consequences of fucking up like that as an adult.

I used to fight my dad without strikes, so judo/bjj/wrestling only. It was great for me because neither of us could get hurt and it taught me how to incapacitate someone without breaking my own knuckles. He taught me pragmatically while most dojos play by rules for honor and tournament. He just wanted me to be able to fuck people up if I ever needed to.
He taught me to be overwhelmingly aggressive before and during fights without losing my cool, its served me well. Its rare for a boxer to KO someone with one hit. Most street/bar/school fights end up with the opponents hugging eachother throwing body shots or on the ground, so people get fucked up when they get hip tossed and slammed on concrete or get caught in a thai plum, kicked in the face and neck cranked.
