We're in the process of electing the next Hitler
Most people think that the austrian president is just a representative of the country that has no real power, however our constitution hides some pretty good powers for the president. Reason for this is because while germans changed their constitution after WW2, we austrians just literally copied the one of the Weimar republic
According to our constitution the president can:
>dissolve the current parliament
>instate any person he deems appropriate as chancelor
>the chancelor could then dissolve the national council
So far, no president has every used their powers because we've been perfectly stable for 70 years but candidate Hofer (who is winning hard) has already said he'd not shy away from using his presidential powers if the government is ineffective
His party has gone on record calling the current government "traitors against the people" multiple times

We've been discussing this for quite a while on here and our elections got picked up by international media. I don't know how you could have possibly missed.
Anyways, right-wing candidate won the first round of presidential elections a fews days ago with 35 % of votes. left-wing candidate got about 21 %, now they're running against each other in the 2nd round.
Our socialist party which is part of our current government is killing itself right now, their candidate got about 11 %. They're split in right- and left-wing as well now. If this goes on they might even break themselves without any other party doing anything. We'll reach our next crossroad in the next round of elections on the 22nd of May. It won't really decied if our country goes right or left from here on out but it will send a very strong signal, even to the rest of Europe, depending on who wins.
