This is good news. I still don't know how he's going to get to 270 though. It's hard to see Virginia voting for him. He can't win without Virginia. Virginia's governor just gave 200,000 felons voting rights to be sure his friend Hillary Clinton wins. Trump will also have a hard time winning Ohio,Colorado,Iowa,Nevada. Still hoping for the best though.

1) There are more people now.
2) This race will be conflicted until the last ballot because of the brokered convention possibility.
Of course he was going to get more votes.
He's also been voted against more than any other republican nominee. 60% of the electorate (roughly) voted against Donald. Due to the winner take all states and disproportionate allocation of electors, he's winning anyway.
This is the part where Trump supporters come out and attack verifiable reality as wrong, and shriek like Bernie supporters.

The 1990 census determined the US pop. @ ~248M and H.W. Bush won the GOP nomination in 1992 with ~9.2M votes.
The 2010 census determined the US pop. @ ~308M, but in 2012 Romney only the nomination with ~10M votes (again less Bush got in 2000 when the 2000 Census showed the US pop. @ 281M).
So even though the population increased 24% in ~20 years, the number of votes the nominee received increased by 8.6%. Put another way, the population increased by roughly 60 MILLION people over two decades and the top vote getter's haul in that length of time oscillated up and down never more than 800 THOUSAND ballots.
