My grandfather just passed last month, 91 years thank God, but it was still pretty somber. We had a reception at this Polish hall and ate a lot but nobody was really celebrating anywhere near what you guys do. I just kept saying yeah, thank you for your condolences but I'm happy we had him so long blah blah blah. I miss the guy but I wish we could have properly celebrated the way you guys do

Sorry to hear that burger, great grandmother (aged 96) and granduncle died last year. Granduncle died suddenly to a truck on car collision, great grandmother had a stroke after the funeral, battled on for another few months and died in her sleep.
Granduncle was actually a musician, got a full page dedicated to him on the city newspaper. For us it's about celebrating the life of the person and having a good time, like they would want you to do, leave the mourning for when you are ready to.

Plastic paddy here. I was in Boston and thought it would be cool to check out the Irish neighborhoods. I got off the subway, went outside, and 3 white homeless looking guys were fighting when one pulled out a knife and waved it around before a cop showed up.
I looked around a little, saw some of the most hardscrabble looking bars and restaurants I've ever seen in my life, and when my friend said let's go, I agreed.
