It's true only under a very "worded" sense of the word.
Words are only as true as the meaning we give them. If taxation is, by definiton, "theft", then it's theft because we give value to the dictionary definition. If you're only defining it as theft because the dictionary says so, then that's counter productive, but it's what libertarians and liberals do, except liberals will charge their words with even more ridiculous nonsense.

Taxation without representation is absolutely theft and, going beyond colonial America, it always reminds me of the middle ages... when Kings were dicks. They would send their henchmen, AKA knights, to little towns and villages and demand taxes (with slaughter certainly being the other choice).

At least in my glorious nation, taxes are more or less agreed upon by the citizen. This is where we get into the semantics bullshit - and, at least where I am concerned, the whole "DON'T LIKE MY COUNTRY THEN GET OUT" argument.

Do you know what capitalism is? Bosses kept more money for themselves to pay for the progress which helps them make even more money. The captain of my boat gets paid more than I do, and he uses some of that money to reinvest back into the boat for things like maintenance, etc. Theocracies like the Vatican do the same thing. Monarchies do this. They use capital. That's what capitalism is, a system based on capital. The government has capital, and they use it to better society. A man isn't going to lay down his own shoe-shining business to build a hospital if neither him or any of his family are sick or injured; it's an investment of the people to have a government that does this for them.
