Not really because any horror movie ends up looking more pleasant than the real world in 2016

Most horror cinema died when paranormal activity became popular because it was super cheap to make and had high turnouts. Everyone else saw that and jumped aboard the shaky cam and jumpscare fad. Shaky cam has its place but it's now incredibly overused and jumpscares have never really been good horror (the equivalent of having a friend sneak up and grab you by your shoulders).
Also films like SAW aren't horror and shouldn't be regarded as such. Should be considered a gore flick instead, nothing particularly scary about it just really bloody which makes people squeamish not scared.
And of course any successful horror film has to put out an endless line of sequels which thereafter makes the content feel cheap, repetitive, and downright lame because half of horror is not knowing what's gonna happen.
