Im not going to argue that their labor force isnt disposable, or that they dont steal technology, or that they devalue their currency. All of this is true, but it is far from what the economy is based on.
I do not plan to live in China for more than a few years, and I even really like it here. My family is back home in the states, so I will return there. But the Chinese economy is much stronger than you think. They are currently trying to become self-sufficient (thus reducing exports) by manufacturing by and selling to chinese citizens.
Calling a currency that is pegged to gold a house of cards when most of the rest of the world is using hyper-inflationary fiat currency is just absurd.

It's not a very controversial opinion, a lot of mainstream analysis comes to the same conclusion, once China wants cheaper manufacturing they need to go to poorer south east Asian countries and eventually further abroad. By then only Africa will be poor enough to profit from the labour of human beings.

I have not been out west, so I cannot speak from experience. But i have been to many villages, and I can say this.
Yes, the villages are impoverished (living the same lifestyle my grandmother did in the Appalachian mountains 80 years) but they are not starving. They are sustenance farmers. Not a lifestyle I envy, but far from starving.
Also, I have never seen anyone homeless in a village. They tend to take care of their own.
