AFL (Australian Football League) is the greatest sport in the world.
It is much more competitive, fast-paced, more fun to watch and takes MUCH more skill then other sports like NFL, NRL, Basketball, Baseball, Soccer (yes, soccer.) etc. etc.

It actually has a much lower skill requirement than basically all other professional sports.
That is why most players can't compete beyond the age of 30. Skill doesn't matter when they are too slow to get to the ball.

A friend of mine got recruited to play AFL when he got scouted at a marathon, he had literally never played the game before but actually made it into a professional team by simply being ridiculously fit, so yeah there's no real skill apart from the extraordinary athleticism required for any sport

That is the point. Older guys should still be "good" if what actually mattered was skill. Instead they are pushed into retirement because the younger guys outrun them.
Other sports though older players can hang around purely on the basis of skill.
AFL is athletically demanding, less so for skill.
