My father is the CEO of a meat processing company. I've been toured through the facility and seen the awesome machinery used to slaughter, cut up and clean the animals.
It chilled me a bit, but I certainly didn't make me think twice about eating meat.

i, for one, witnessed my first pig slaughter at the age of 3, slaughtered my first pig on my own at 12, did so several times in between with help of the adults.
i also went hunting at the age of 9. there was no "democracy" at the time, so you couldn't get in trouble for giving your son a handgun (couldn't carry a rifle) and taking him with you to hunt, so my dad took me.
i was kinda disgusted the first time when i shot a boar from the tower and after waiting few mins, i had to walk up to it and cut off its balls, but i did it and it went easy every time after that

I took part in slaughtering pigs every 12th month. And afterwards I enjoyed their fresh meat.
I've killed and butchered 6 wild pigs.
It's not that gross.
Once you know how to remove the intestines and bladder without breaking them, it's actually quite enjoyable.
Skinning is especially therapeutic.
