I don't get it. I have a lot of problems with feminism in general, and SJW's in general. I've long heard a lot of hate for Sarkeesian and never really knew who she was, so I decided to watch her Tropes vs women in video games on Youtube. I haven't watched all episodes of it, I don't have time for that, I just watched a couple of them.
Why is there so much hate for this woman? It's like people are comparing her to Big Red or other famous feminist morons. All Sarkeesian says in her Youtube video is "hey, it's kind of dumb that the women in the video games are always kidnapped or frozen or whatever and just lie there waiting for the man to rescue them. I liked playing Mario too, and it's fine to enjoy it, but when we're making new video games let's maybe not just make the female characters useless shits that get kidnapped all the time, cool?"
I mean, what is the problem with that? I think what she's saying is reasonable. What did she say that warrants the hate-fest on her?
There are so many internet feminists who deserve ridicule, like Laurie Penny or Chanty Binks (Big red). Sarkeesian seems fine. What am I missing?

The problem is that this is not what games are about, and focusing on this only further degenerates the current level of video game criticism.
Princess Peach is less than 1% of SMB's content. She has nothing to do with the gameplay mechanics. If you pretend to be a serious critic and you focus 99% of your ciricism on an insignificant 1% of the game, you don't really understand videogames and shouldn't be doing videogame criticism.
It's basically the old social studies method of replicating a poplar method and using it on a medium it doesn't apply for. Imagine a literature critic who gets to review Citizen Kane, but because literature is all he knows, all he focuses on in his review is the opening credits, because that's the part of the movie that looks most like a novel.
This basically encapsulates all of the current feminist criticism of videogames. These people don't understant what videogames are about, and they don't understand that the methods they learned in critical film studies or whatever don't apply to them: any criticism of videogames, feminist or otherwise, which doesn't focus on the gameplay mechanics, is misguided and worthless.
