I played football, we had our own dorms that we split 50-50 with the general student population to follow NCAA rule. Football players were not roomed with non-football players. Athletes that the football team hated (basketball team, baseball team) were intentionally housed in different dorms.
Anyone with any sense joins a fraternity anyway so you can have a home away from home. Just don't take it too seriously and just join the one with the nicest house and most low-key brothers.
