Honestly this. I've been in a few hotels and hostels in Poland myself and from my experience - the better and more expensive the hotel is, the more likely it is to have shelves inside showers.

If you're backpacking you're probably going to places that cut costs wherever possible, and that would include shower racks

Americans don't know how to use a bidet properly. That is why Americans will never appreciate the benefits of a bidet. I traveled to Kyoto three summers ago to visit with family. Japan takes their bidet and toilets very seriously. Well, I explained to my family that our American toilets are nothing much more than a bowl with water in it.
Then I told them that I was afraid to use the contraption they called a toilet. It was a toilet, a bidet, a blow dryer, and an air freshener all in one. It has a push-button control panel. Anyway, you drop a loaf. However, our bodies don't excrete every bit of poop. Our rectum is a collapsible balloon. Every time we poop, some poop stays in the rectum. The colon surrounds the poop with a slimy yellowish mucus and some of that mucus remains in the rectum. Having poop and mucus remain in the rectum all-day, every-day can lead to gas, indigestion, shit stains in underwear because the stuff leaks out, and cancer.
Anyway, the bidet squirts water up into your anus. You are meant to relax and take in some water in through your anus and then push the water out, repeating that over and over several times until the water you squeeze out comes out clear. You will be amazed at how much more poop is still inside your rectum after pooping. It takes less time to do that process than it takes to wipe your ass and your ass is never cleaner inside and out.
