My mom got super into that shit and spent a couple years working on it. She ended up tracing us all the way back to the 1100's. She wrote borderline microscopic, and the tree is still on a 6'x8' paper with little additions taped and hanging off the side.

Also, my great grandfather from Silesia is literally the only interesting person in my entire family tree (as far as I can trace it back anyways). He fought for the Nazis in WW2 but unlike my other grandfather (the father of my mother's father) wasn't retarded enough to get himself shot on day one. He was captured by Ruskies and somehow managed to survive without telling them anything. I remember him cracking jokes about it whenever me an my mum went to his house when we were younger; he was a very idiosyncratic and funny person, and it makes me pretty sad that he had to die so early in my childhood. My favourite joke of his was what he told my father when he apparently was reluctant to continue trying to have a baby with my mother while she was on her period; he told him, "My boy, a true pirate also sets sail to the red sea." I still have to laugh.
