I speak fluent Italian and my culture (being Western Slovenian) is more consistent and similar to North-Eastern Italians than it is to Eastern Slovenians. To me, the customs and culture of East Slovenia is strange, I don't understand it. My culture is more similar to North-Eastern Italy.

Our country, despite all memes, does have different areas with different cultures and this causes one hell of a clash when they consider making laws for federal level.
Take the south for example. Hunting culture down here is based around gathering food for eating and materials for crafts. Gun culture is big here, safe gun culture none of that thuggy Detroit shit.
Then take the north eastern part of the country, they tend to have less farms and rely on the market and fishing for sustenance. They hear about gangs and shit from New York, so their gun culture is negative. They don't need the tool and don't see it as something good for self defense or bringing home food.
Then you have the Midwest. It still has a decent gun culture, but it focuses mainly on defending their families. There are farms there and if you have ranches then you need to protect your animals from predators using weapons.
Then you have the west coast. It is the most liberal because they get giant influxes from all over the world thanks to their tourism. But, they also have quite a bit of fucking crime even though getting a gun is tough as shit over there. They equate guns with negativity thanks to drugs, illegal exotic animal trades, and with several foreigners who always talk about how guns are bad. This can also apply to the southern most areas of Florida.
So you can see how this all can conflict in terms of how guns should be handled? That's why we have to make ourselves independent from the US. I value them as allies but they're ultimately trying to make sure that Europe stays strong enough to resist Russia, but weak and submissive enough to not be able to threaten American interests.
Western Europe will certainly need to be significantly stronger than it is today if we are to be able to invite Russia without them ending up being the dominant power. It's probably going to take 50+ years but I think it'll be worth it.
