Two thirds of the US is overweight or obese.

It's a problem across all Western society. No time for family life and genuine good cooking any more, so the corporations shill for fast food.

Because it tastes good and is cheap.

Sure rice and beans is cheap but it's flavorless, and a good lean steak can cost a lot of money. It's easier just to settle for a cheeseburger.

Faking scientific findings through health associations.
No, really, americans were confused into thinking that butter is bad and trans fats are good for over half a century.

Because you can buy a cheeseburger for a dollar. Eating to your hearts content doesn't break the bank here like in other countries.

eh. the shit the average person eats is so full of sugar and garbage. when i was a kid my mom would buy garbage like pop tarts, spaghettios, frozen food etc.

now i pretty much cook everything from scratch and i have no premade food in my house other than hot sauce/mustard/mayo and other various condiments. i guess a good tip for eating healthy would be to only eat food from around the edge of the supermarket. i.e. vegetables, fruits, meat, dairy and avoid the aisles because its full of dogshit food.

i dunno. i go to supermarket twice a week spending between 30 bucks a trip. buy food that can cook in slow cooker and last 6-7 meals (lunch and dinner). i just drink a protein shake with bananas and starwberries for breakfast. overall i probably spend about 120-150 a month on food and i live on long island so stuff is kinda expensive.

right now i'm brewing up chicken burrito filler that cost me $18 and can make 12 burritos.

Cattle, Diary, and Agribusiness Industries are too powerful which makes fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains (besides oatmeal & brown rice) comparatively expensive for lack of subsidies.

The stagnation of real wages and rise in income inequality means Americans must devote longer hours at work to generate sustaining household income, leaving less time to prepare home cooked meals using a pricey stocked pantry as a result of policy results of . This leads to:
A Rise in consumption of inexpensive restaurant fast food
B Rise in consumption of inexpensive highly processed shelf-stable packaged meals.

Unrestricted advertising means Americans live in a Food Carnival of near constant marketing exposure for food products that are engineered to perfectly balance the trinity of salt, sugar, & fat to hijack the brain's reward circuit and promote more consumption.

A lack of funding for non-industry-backed nutritional science testing in rigorous clinical double-blind human studies means official dietary guidelines are constantly evolving and consumers receive mixed information about what is and isn't healthy to eat.
This leads to:
A Drawing incorrect conclusions ("10 Foods You Thought Were Healthy Can Kill You & Why You Should Eat More Butter!").
B Ignoring the available information altogether as noise.
