The point behind the "spices" thing is to affect a type of revenge against an identifiable group of people that are now generally despised based on little more than physical traits. These things are the equivalent of two children fighting:
1. Little Sally hates Little Timmy because she perceives that he has wronged her in some manner, maybe by non-maliciously picking up a toy that she had wanted to use first.
2. Little Sally expresses her anger by hitting Little Timmy as an act of revenge and retribution for the perceived slight.
That is essentially what this is.
